The Colombo bourse yesterday closed the week virtually flat with the indices pointing in opposite directions – the All Share Price Index up 8.98 points (0.5%) while S&P SL20 was down 3.63 points (0.11%) on a low turnover of Rs.352.8 million, down from the previous day’s Rs.513.2 million, with 131 gainers comfortably ahead of 77 losers while 105 counters closed flat.

Broker said that there was one crossing of L.B. Finance with a block trade of 225,000 shares at Rs.120 generating Rs.27 million turnover. They noted that this trade was done 10 cents above the market price.

JKH, the most traded stock on the floor, closed 40 cents up at Rs.215 on over 0.4 million shares done between Rs.213 and Rs.217 contributing the day’s top turnover of Rs.92.8 million.

Very large quantities of PC House Holdings were transacted with a total of over 58.8 million shares traded with the majority done at an average price of 80 cents per share. The counter however closed 40 cents up at Rs.1.10 trading between 80 cents and Rs.1.10 contributing Rs.48.1 million to turnover.

Brokers and analysts said that some of the major shareholders of the company appeared to have been sellers.

Lanka Ventures closing 90 cents up at Rs.37 on over 0.7 million shares, Touchwood closing 70 cents down at Rs.2.30 on nearly 5.6 million shares, Distilleries closing Rs.2.50 down at Rs.185.50 on 63,875 shares and Hemas Holdings closing a rupee down at Rs.30 on nearly 0.4 million shares were among the other major business generators.

Among the blue chips Guardian closed Rs.1.20 up at Rs.168.70 on 57,595 shares. PC House closed 20 cents up at 80 cents on 6.2 million shares.

Hemas Power announced an interim dividend of 75 cents per share for 2013/14 XD from Sept. 9 and with payment on Sept. 18 while Panasian Power announced an interim dividend of 10 cents per share for 2012/13 XD from Sept. 9 and with payment on Sept. 18.

Serendib Land announced a first and final dividend of Rs.25 per share for 2012/13 following shareholder approval at a Sept. 26 AGM. The share will trade XD from Sept. 27 with payment on Oct. 3. Lake House Printers and Publishers announced a final dividend of 75 cents per share for 2012/13 following shareholder approval at a Sept. 26 AGM. The share will trade XD from Sept. 27 with payment on Oct. 7.
