Colombo shares closed with mixed returns on Wednesday. All Share Index moved to the positive territory and closed at 6,209.23, up 16.23 index points (+0.26%) mainly with the support of price appreciations in high cap stocks such as NDB Capital Holdings by 10% (up by LKR 45.00), Ceylon Tobacco by 1.3% (up by LKR 12.80) and John Keells Holdings by 0.8% (up by LKR 2.00). S&P SL 20 Index closed with marginal losses (down by 1.44 index points) to end at 3,495.68. Drop in prices in Nestle Lanka, Sri Lanka Telecom and Cargills Ceylon contributed negatively to the S&P Index performances.

Market turnover was LKR 344mn. Commercial Bank with LKR 94mn, John Keells Holdings with LKR 41mn and Distilleries with LKR 39mn were the top contributors to the market turnover. Commercial Bank recorded a crossing of 410,500 shares at LKR 117.00 per share which accounted for 14% of the market turnover.

According to Reuters, John Keells Holdings will sign a $640 million deal next week to establish an integrated 500-room hotel complex with apartments, supermarkets, and restaurants in the capital of Colombo. JKH is yet to make an announcement to CSE with this regard.

Retail investor favorite Colombo Land & Development, PC House and Capital Alliance Finance were the mostly traded stocks during the day.

Foreign participation represented 36% of the total turnover and ended the day as net buyers with a net inflow of LKR 64mn.
