Jun 21, 2013 (LBT) - Index falls to lowest level in 1 month: The market witnessed a sharp sell down with counters across the board declining in value as the index dipped 56 points. The heavy weights led the decline in the index with John Keells Holdings, Commercial Leasing and Ceylon Cold Stores recording considerable dips affecting the overall sentiment of the market.

Distilleries, Sampath and HNB record crossings: Investor interest in Distilleries, the leading hard liquor manufacturer, continued today as well with the counter recording 3 crossings accounting for 312k shares dealt at LKR193.0. Banking sector counters Sampath Bank and HNB recorded one crossing each with the former registering 275k at LKR200.0 and the latter 200k at LKR162.0. Both counters ended in the red with dips of 2.9% and 0.8% respectively.

Heavy declines in BFI sector: In addition the Sampath and HNB more banking sectors suffered with selling pressure while sector turnover remained comparatively high. National Development Bank, Seylan Bank [Non-Voting], Nations Trust Bank and Commercial Bank too recorded investor attention but failed maintain prices as all 3 counters lost value dipping 1.3%, 1.4%, 2.2% and 0.4% respectively. Low Retail participation: Retail activity was low with the benchmark index on a downward trend. Most investors in the category stayed out of the market.
