There is a lot of discussion about short, mid and long term stock investments in this forum. Could someone give me a rough idea what they mean ? .. example short term is 1 month ?

There is not hard rule on short , medium, long. I really depends on the individual. For some short term could be few days while long term can be 10 years.

TO me
short = 1 month-2month
medium=6months-8months
long term=1-5 years.

Please note am sure this will differ to others. This is just my view.

I dont know what the book says..

But my personal view is

Day tradings = buy n sell within a day.
If you intend to sell the shares in less than 2 months we can called it as a short term investment
If you intend to sell the shares after 2 months and before 12 motnhs then we can called it a medium term investment.

If you intend to sell the shares after 12 months you bought the shares then we can called it as a long term investment.

But if you can get significant profits from any investment in less than 12 months, then it is almost equivalent to a long term investment.

HSBC, the world's local bank says, "We always recommend that any shares held are viewed as a medium to long-term investment (at least five years)."

My personal opinion is that if you make a profit of 50% before that, take some profits... bounce
