Colombo Bourse closed the daily operations in red where benchmark All Share Index and S&P SL 20 Index dropped marginally by 7.55 points (-0.13%) and 11.02 points (-0.32%) to end at 6,007.65 and 3,386.42 respectively.

Daily market turnover was LKR 738mn. John Keells Holdings with LKR 341mn, Sampath Bank with LKR 98mn and Commercial Bank with LKR 36mn emerged as the top contributors to the market turnover mainly with the support of off-the-floor deals recorded in these stocks. 1.24mn shares of John Keells Holdings, 0.31mn shares of Sampath Bank and 0.18mn shares of Commercial Bank changed hands at a price of LKR 247.00, LKR 196.50 and LKR 116.70 per share respectively. Total value of the crossings accounted for 52% of the total market turnover.

Namunukula Plantations, Colombo Land & Development, Central Investment & Finance and Kegalle Plantations were the heavily traded stocks for the day. Namunukula and Kegalle Plantations announced interim dividends of LKR 9.00 and LKR 12.00 per share respectively. Kegalle Plantations reached intra-day high of LKR 118.00 and close at LKR 114.90, up by LKR 10.00 (+10%) while Namunukula Plantations reached intra-day high of LKR 86.00 and close at LKR 84.00, up by LKR 10.00 (+14%).

Foreign participation for the day was 36% of the total market activity and at the end of the trading foreign investors were net buyers with a net inflow of LKR 421mn.

Cash map closed at 48%.

July 16, 2013 (LBT) - Indices on a dormant note: Bourse prolonged its lackluster behavior as the benchmark indices hovered on a marginal ground. ASPI closed near 6,000, at 6,007.65 with a drop of 8 points. Gains denoted in Sri Lanka Telekom (+2.6%), NDB Capital Holdings (+7.1%) and losses recorded in John Keells Holdings (-1.0%) and Commercial Leasing and Finace (-5.0%) held the bourse on a doldrums note. S&P SL20 traded on a similar note and settled at 3,386.42 with a loss of 11 points.

JKH topped turnover: Premier conglomerate John Keells Holdings spearheaded the daily turnover supported by three off-board transactions totaling 1.2mn shares which changed hands at LKR247.0. JKH denoted notable on-board activity with a large 56k trade at LKR246.0. The counter closed at LKR246.2 with a dip of 1.0%. BFI counters; Sampath Bank and Commercial Bank too witnessed crossing of 305k shares and 181k shares at prices LKR196.5 and LKR116.7 respectively.

BFI sector attracts investor interest: Significant on-board investor interest was seen in Sampath Bank, Hatton National Bank and Commercial Bank. Sampath Bank on-board turnover was heightened by a single transaction of 91k shares which was traded at LKR196.5. The counter further dipped by 0.8% on uncertainty of gold prices to LKR196.3. Hatton National Bank too denoted a single on-board transaction of 100k shares at LKR155.0. The counter closed at 155.0 with a dip of 1.3%.

Retailers on the sidelines: Retailers were on sidelines. However interest was seen on selected counters Colombo Land & Development Company, Central Investment and Finance and Piramal Glass.
