Fonterra suspends Sri Lanka operations
23 Aug, 2013 09:34:29
Aug 23, 2013 (LBO) - New Zealand Fonterra said it had temporarily suspended Sri Lanka consumer operations to protect is workers and assets amid nationalists protest and a court order halting sales and distribution.

"The temporary suspension is the right thing to do," Theo Spierings, chief executive Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited said in a statement filed with New Zealand stock exchange.

"It is a precautionary measure to ensure our 755 people working there are safe. We have closed our plants and office in Sri Lanka, and have asked our people to stay at home."

Sri Lanka said it had found traces of dicyandiamide (DCD) in at least two batches of milk powder which appeared to have been produced in late 2012. The testing agency said yesterday it found the latest batches free of contamination.

Yesterday a Sri Lankan nationalist party protested outside the factory asking it to be shut down.

Mr. & Mrs. Protesters,

Do not be a typical SL. Please do not do any thing for Fonterra workers, their management & plant. Those people's are doing their job like you & me.

If you can go & protest in front of relevant ministries & other authorities. Ask 'game' from them. Do not discourage investors. Think wisely.

True enuf.. As prudent Sri Lankans our actions should speak louder.. For the time being we should reject these products and stick to SL stuff.. This is not about patriotism but rather being safe than sorry...

We want our children a good future and not this and that defect in their bodies in years to come.

From infant products, I think Nespray 1+ is out of danger but yet we're not sure? I'm also having 50-50 sate in mind whether to continue or not but started giving Highland to my kids until the situation is clear..

The biggest problem in this country is that officials dont advertise which are 100% safe, I mean name the brands.. There might be another side to the story that we dont wanna explore..

Why not give them a balanced diat instead? Milk is not essential to grown up but if they really want milk, alterrnative is fresh milk.

That's tru Hapu but since childhood, doctors recommended giving milk so the children are now addicted to have those.
I dont remember when we were small skippin any meals but the children now-a-days dont wanna have much meals.. They're still energetic and active even if they skip meals..

Hmmm fresh milk is a good choice..
