Bourse starts week on dull note on Monday. Main share index declined by 19.78 points (-0.33%) to 5,928.97 on price depreciations in John Keells Holdings (LKR 218.00, -1.9%), Carsons (LKR 375.00, -5.0%) and Ceylinco Insurance (LKR 1,346.00, -0.3%). S&P SL 20 Index declined by 18.72 points (-0.57%) and settled at 3,261.76.

Daily market turnover fell to seven day low of LKR 373mn, 59% below the last week’s average daily turnover. However the trading volume fell by mere 5% from the last week’s average daily volume since retailers were active in penny stocks such as Touchwood Investments and Central Investment & Finance. Moreover Kelani Tyres was heavily traded today. The share closed at 52 week high of LKR 51.70, +7.5%.

Tokyo Cement with LKR 77mn, Lanka IOC with 36mn and Kelani Tyres with LKR 24mn were the highest contributors to the market turnover. A single crossing was recorded in Commercial bank where 0.18mn shares changed hands at LKR 117.00 per share.

Foreign participation for the day was 18% whilst recording a net outflow of LKR 91mn. Net outflows were seen in stocks such as Tokyo Cement (LKR 73mn) and Commercial Bank (LKR 21mn).

Cash map ended at 35%.

Stock closed 0.33 percent lower on Monday driven down by diversified, insurance and telecom stocks.

The All Share Price Index closed 19.78 points lower at 5,928.97, down 0.33 percent, after peaking at an intraday high of 5,953.39.

The S&P SL20 closed 18.72 points lower at 3,261.76, down 0.57 percent.

Turnover amounted to 372.54 million rupees, down from 1,480.60 million rupees the previous day, with shares of 92 firms gaining against 103 losers.

Foreigners sold stocks worth 114.25 million rupees, up from 36.43 million rupees a day earlier, and bought shares worth 22.58 million rupees, down from 47.70 million the rupees a day earlier.

JKH closed 4.20 rupees lower at 218.10 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 19.90 rupees lower at 375.00 rupees.

Ceylinco Insurance closed 73.80 rupees lower at 1,276.10 rupees and Dialog closed Dialog closed 10 cents lower at 8.80 rupees.

Ceylon Investment closed 6.60 rupees lower at 80.20 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 1.00 rupees higher at 39.80 rupees and Commercial Leasing and Finance closed 20 cents higher at 4.20 rupees.
