Spending millions for flower pots and bus stands are obviously bad for the economy unless the suddhas and the Africans are impressed enough to invest/become tourists and we get return on the billions wasted on this ego boost.
But the recent CSE downturn is because people are pulling a bit of money to fund the massive debentures that came recently.

Main problem is mismanagement of financial system and economy
Not CHOGM

Basically one person is responsible for present situation in the SL stock market.

But higher authorities not in a position to understand it

When they realize too late.

CHOGM could have been used as a catalyst for potential investment opportunities flowing into the country, if all the functions/activities are timely planned & presented impressively of ongoing economic, social, cultural aspects of the country. It is unsure or too early to comment how the administrators, advisers & the fleet of ministers coordinate each other effectively to gain the maximum out of this opportunity. After few quarters, success of all the efforts made, could be measured quantitatively & qualitatively as well, comparing to the huge amount of resources utilized. Hopefully, no additional burden on the shoulders of tax payers.Thinking positively, participation in high valued investment projects by member countries, targeting manufacturing & export oriented bases, should enhance the countries economic indicators, living standard & the capital market currently in question.

Effect of CHOGM will depend on how govt will managed it

Interestingly there is no budget for the expenditure. So no limits imposed.
Even village boys preparing for "Dansala" have a budget!!

CHOGM is good for the country. But few member countries are againts SL (Govt) due to Human rights violation which is bad

Yes, your point is correct Hawk Eye, When we consider their impact to Commonwealth its want be too small to measure....because their not the small economics like Vanuatu,Tuvalu.....
Those countries representing more than two third of the commonwealth economy ....

This CHOGM will be the biggest international event for H.E. in his lifetime. The day he accepts the CHOGM chair and makes his acceptance speech, the entire world spotlight will be on him & Sri Lanka momentarily. the biggest issue amongst the international community are the human rights concerns. how if he uses this opportune moment in time to reach out and announce sweeping positive concessions on human rights matters ? could the whole ball game change ?

1) Dont compare your monthly income and the CHOGM expenditure. Take Sri lankan GDP or the Gov. total budget Vs CHOGM Budget.

2) If not now, When we can held these type of functions in Sri Lanka.

Next constitutional amendment (when it would be I have no idea) should incorporate stop spending in such numbers.
Always there should be a maximum level imposed in relation to the Per Capita Income to stop such extravagance.

So far Gov has managed CHOGM well. Wimal Weerawansa and the Dr are

Downward trend in the stock market May be due to flowing reasons

1. Investors think Economic management is very poor
