Colombo bourse managed to close positively on Wednesday after two days of marginal losses. Benchmark ASPI gained 9.80 index points or 0.17% to close at 5,782.92 while 20- Script S&P SL Index gained 4.11 points or 0.13% to end at 3,165.05.

Market turnover was LKR 794mn. Several negotiated deals were recorded in Commercial Leasing (40mn shares at LKR 5.00), LOLC (1.5mn shares at LKR 78.00), Expo Lanka (5.0mn shares at LKR 7.40) and John Keells Holdings (0.1mn shares at LKR 210.00).

Accordingly Commercial Leasing topped the turnover list with an amount of LKR 200mn closely followed by LOLC (LKR 189mn) and John Keells Holdings (LKR 108mn).

E-Channelling attracted heavy retail investor interest during the day and closed at a new 52 week high of LKR 12.90 (+17.2%). Further, Dankotuwa Porcelain and LOLC traded heavily during the day.

Foreign participation for the day was 19%. Foreign investors were net buyers with a net inflow of LKR 55mn.
Cash map closed at 51%.

On today’s Treasury bill auction yields dropped across all maturities. The 12-month yield fell by 19 basis points to 9.50%. The 3-month yield dropped 09 basis points to 8.65% and the 6-month yield dropped 15 basis points to 8.65%.

Dec 04, 2013 (LBT) - Indices trimmed early gains and closed lower: Indices continued to depict lackluster performance as the benchmark index trimmed early gains closing at 5,782.92 (+9 points) after having gained 15 points at its intra-day high level. The S&P SL20 index closed with a marginal gain at 3,165.05 points. Gains were primarily supported by Ceylon Tobacco Company (+0.9%), Lanka Orix Leasing Company (+3.3%) and National Development Bank (+4.5%).

Turnover distributed evenly between on-board and off-board trades: Crossings added 47% to the day’s turnover led by Commercial Leasing and Finance which registered a block of 40 mn shares at LKR5.0. Lanka Orix Leasing Company and Expo Lanka Holdings denoted significant interest both on-board and off-board. The former recorded two off-board blocks accumulating to 1.5 mn shares at a 52-week high (off-board) price of LKR78.0 and the latter recorded a block of 5 mn shares at a 52-week high (off-board) price of LKR7.4. John Keells Holdings traded among the top turnover slot backed by a crossing of 100k shares at LKR210.0.

Diversified and BFI sectors gathered interest: On-board participation in diversified players emerged led by John Keells Holdings and Expo Lanka Holdings. The latter touched LKR7.6 (+2.7%) at its intra-day high level and saw many sizeable trades including a block of 1.5 mn shares which was picked on-board at LKR7.5. BFI sector interest was dominated by Lanka Orix Leasing Company, Commercial Bank [Non-Voting], Ceylinco Insurance and National Development Bank. The former touched a 52-week high price at LKR80.5 (+7.3%). Sampath Bank, a counter which recently traded at 52-week low levels gathered interest as it closed with a gain of 1.6%.

Retail interest surrounded selected counters: Majority of retailer activity was noted in selected counters; E-Channelling, Dankotuwa Porcelain, Lanka Orix Leasing Company and Blue Diamonds.
