Sri Lanka stocks end higher
Dec 12, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka stocks closed higher Thursday with diversified stocks gaining amid net foreign buying on the bourse, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index closed 5.38 points higher at 5,793.19, up 0.09 percent. The S&P SL20 closed 7.17 points higher at 3,189.44, up 0.23 percent.

Turnover was 247.70 million rupees, up from 180.07 million rupees a day earlier, with stocks of 76 firms closing in the red against 70 gainers.

Asiri Hospital Holdings closed 10 cents higher at 16.00 rupees with market transactions of 65.92 million rupees contributing to 27 percent of total turnover.

The Finance Company closed 2.00 rupees higher at 10.50 rupees attracting more retail investor interest during the day.

Foreigners bought 65 million rupees worth shares while selling 52 million rupees of shares.

Bukit Darah closed 19.90 rupees higher at 634.90 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 9.50 rupees higher at 1,149.00 rupees, contributing most to the index gain.

Ceylinco Insurance closed 48.90 rupees higher at 1,348.90 rupees and Dipped Products closed 11.40 rupees higher at 99.90 rupees.

Distilleries closed 5.00 rupees lower at 185.00 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 4.40 rupees lower at 342.20 rupees.

Aitken Spence closed 2.00 rupees lower at 103.00 rupees and Cargills Ceylon closed 2.50 rupees lower at 145.00 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 3.90 rupees higher at 2,096.70 rupees and JKH closed 10 cents lower at 214.90 rupees.

JKH’s W0023 warrants closed 1.30 rupees higher at 75.10 rupees and it’s W0022 warrants closed 40 cents higher at 62.40 rupees.

Lion Brewery closed 2.90 rupees higher at 345.00 rupees and DFCC closed 10 cents lower at 125.00 rupees.

Dialog Axiata closed flat at 8.90 rupees and Sri Lanka Telecom also closed flat at 37.50 rupees.

Asian Hotels and Properties closed 90 cents higher at 66.90 rupees and Lanka Orix Leasing Company closed 30 cents higher at 71.50 rupees.

Sampath Bank closed 80 cents higher at 167.00 rupees and NDB closed 1.30 rupees higher at 157.00 rupees.

Commercial Bank closed 50 cents higher at 117.50 rupees.

HNB closed flat at 142.00 rupees and Touchwood Investments also closed flat at 2.90 rupees.

COLOMBO, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Sri Lankan stocks rose for a second straight session on Thursday as investors bought large-caps such as Ceylon Tobacco Co PLC and Bukit Darah PLC in low-volume trade, dealers said.

The main stock index rose 0.09 percent, or 5.38 points, to close at 5,793.19.

The day's gains added 2.24 billion rupees ($17.13 million) in market value, while turnover stood at 247.7 million rupees, well below this year's daily average of 837.7 million rupees.

Shares in Ceylon Tobacco rose 0.83 percent to 1,149 rupees, while Bukit Darah PLC gained 3.24 percent to 634.90 rupees.

Foreign investors were net buyers of 12.9 million rupees worth of shares on Thursday, extending their net buying to 23.15 billion rupees so far this year.
