Sri Lanka stocks closed greener

Dec 13, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka stocks closed higher Thursday with finance and diversified stocks gaining despite net foreign selling on the bourse, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index closed 2.47 points higher at 5,795.66, up 0.04 percent. The S&P SL20 closed 3.77 points lower at 3,185.67, down 0.12 percent.
Turnover was 414.66 million rupees, up from 247.70 million rupees a day earlier, with stocks of 77 firms closing in the red against 82 gainers.

JKH closed 60 cents lower at 214.30 rupees with an off market transaction of 81.64 million rupees contributing to 20 percent of total turnover.

The Finance Company closed 1.20 rupees higher at 11.70 rupees attracting most number of trades during the day.

Foreigners bought 158 million rupees worth shares while selling 201 million rupees of shares.

Lanka Orix Leasing Company closed 3.50 rupees higher at 75.00 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 7.80 rupees higher at 350.00 rupees, contributing most to the index gain.

Distilleries closed 4.50 rupees higher at 189.50 rupees and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 2.70 rupees higher at 65.00 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 12.30 rupees lower at 1,136.70 rupees and Asian Hotels and Properties closed 4.00 rupees lower at 62.90 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 9.90 rupees lower at 625.00 rupees and Sri Lanka Telecom closed 50 cents lower at 37.00 rupees.

DFCC closed flat at 125.00 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents higher at 9.00 rupees.

JKH’s W0023 warrants closed 1.50 rupees lower at 73.60 rupees and it’s W0022 warrants closed 40 cents lower at 62.00 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 30 cents higher at 2,100.90 rupees and Cargills Ceylon closed 2.70 rupees higher at 147.70 rupees.

Ceylinco Insurance closed flat at 1,348.90 rupees and Commercial Bank closed 50 cents lower at 117.00 rupees.

Sampath Bank closed 1.00 rupee higher at 168.00 rupees and NDB closed 80 cents lower at 156.20 rupees.

HNB closed flat at 142.00 rupees and Touchwood Investments also closed flat at 2.90 rupees.

COLOMBO, Dec 13 (Reuters) - Sri Lankan stocks rose for a third straight session on Friday to a week-high on buying in large-cap shares such as Nestle Lanka PLC, dealers said.

The main stock index rose 0.04 percent, or 2.47 points, to close at 5,795.66, its highest since Dec.9.

The day's gains added 1.03 billion rupees ($7.87 million) in market value, while turnover stood at 414.6 million rupees, well below this year's daily average of 835.9 million rupees.

Shares in Nestle Lanka PLC rose 2.21 percent to 2,147 rupees, while Capital Trust PLC rose 4.9 percent to 75 rupees.

Foreign investors were net sellers for the first time in four sessions. They sold 42.4 million rupees worth of shares on Friday. But foreign investors were net buyers of 23.11 billion rupees worth of shares so far this year.

Sri Lanka's stock and foreign exchange markets will be closed on Monday for a holiday. Trading will resume on Tuesday.
