I have since 1984 a certificate of 2500 shares in Colombo Dry Dockyard. Is there a value in them?

If you you do not have a CDS account, open up an account. Then through broker lodge your shares to CDS. There's no more share certificate thing. There was a deadline for the above and first you are better to speak to a broker.

Strange question !!!
But no one has attempted to answer your question.

YES, there is a value.
The value is  (2500X190) , Rs 475,000/- based on the closing price of Rs 190/-of DOCK share.
As explained in above comments you have to follow the procedure ,to realize the cash. It's simple and takes only 2-3 days.
Good Luck.

Plus there were three bonus or capitalization of reserves, to get the certificates, he/she need to contact the company secretary.(which may be value around 387 x 190)

Since you held it this long you might as well hold it for another year or so, as dock is at a low at the moment, and with the ports and offshore oil activity increasing near future looking good. Besides it is a well run company and your money is safe.

BTW how goes the arctic winter ?

First contact the company secretory . Your 2500 shares are now more after Bonus issues. After 2008 itself there were 2 bonuses of 1 for every 20 shares held . If you track history between 1984-2007 there can be more bonuses

Next have your shares listed at CSE through a Stock broker

Present share is worth about Rs 190. You maybe a rich man. If you held it this long and are not in hurry for money this might not be the best time to sell.

DOCK is good company ( presently going through a not so great time due global issues on Shipping).
Good times may come again in the future.

Below is a small research I did on DOCK way back in April 2011 ( CSE market was near peak)
