Aran given that we have seen a very strong bull run over the last few months, I would be more aggressive. I would sell off 100% in counters that are of a 'speculative' nature. I would also take 75 - 80 % profit on even counters that are fundamentally strong (LIOC, TKYO) that have been actively traded on the basis that they would have reasonable amounts held by leveraged buyers. I would take 40-50 % off fundamentally strong stocks that have performed inline with the ASPi. I would look for opportunities to bet back into the last two categories if/when I see a 15-20 pct pull back, but again wouldn't rush in since we are ending year end. Also would keep a keen eye on the whole political enviro men as I feel things are going to get a lot more complexed (crossing boTh ways) and dirty before the end of Dec

Thanks guys, Finally we are working out strategies to stay above the water in the event of a down trend. It is good to discuss realities and ready for it instead of being ignorant and believe everything is fine!

Read Below:

Political Risk

Political risk is the risk of financial, market or personnel losses because of political decisions or disruptions. Also known as "geopolitical risk."

How it works/Example:

There are many environmental factors facing business. Besides market-based causes, business can be affected by political decisions or changes.

For example, political decisions by governmental leaders about taxes, currency valuation, trade tariffs or barriers, investment, wage levels, labor laws, environmental regulations and development priorities, can affect the business conditions and profitability. Similarly, non-economic factors can affect a business. For example, political disruptions such as terrorism, riots, coups, civil wars, international wars, and even political elections that may change the ruling government, can dramatically affect businesses’ ability to operate.

Political risks are faced equally by investors in international businesses and investment fund portfolios. These political risks are part of the estimation and disclosure of risk factors, usually found in a company or portfolio's prospectus.

Why it Matters:

Political risk can affect the operations and profitability of a business as directly and quickly as any financial, physical, or market risk factor. The impact of political risk is considered to be long-term because the risk rises over time, given the greater potential for events and changes over time. Although political risk is extremely difficult to quantify, companies and investors must examine and understand the potential for political risks by closely examining the location's history, political institutions, and political forces at work in the region.

Other thing is stocks don’t go to zero unless they delist or they have serious issue. We should identify strong support base for stocks that we like. At the moment players are selling stocks due to fear. Now it is time to prepare for next stages of market. May be we can rotate, add more and reduce some stocks to get great return in the future by studying market pattern, support base and prospects. In short we should apply our own strategy

Good luck!

Our main target is to earn a profit by minimizing risk. So each & every person has to study on his own and make his own decisions. I have my own pattern. I sold some and kept some and bought back some yesterday for a lower price. You have to be smart, well informed and intelligent to be above the water without drowning. That is why this forum is important. Also I add some small quantities from bottom for my PF to average cost and to minimize loses.
