Businessmen, racketeers, drug traffickers, criminals & politicians keep their wealth in Swiss banks with a view to avoid domiciled taxation & hide the source of cash generated. Since recent time with new provisions into bank & criminal law caused to divulge client information.

No matter of individual citizenship any adult is free to open an account there. New conventions brought into effect, allowed Swiss banks to provide clients’ cash in & out information to foreign tax authorities provided there is a solid basis to suspect a foul play.

Whatever case may be, our legal system (tax, civil & criminal) must be strong enough to prosecute those who connected to illegal money laundering. If not, new provisions are to be introduced for immediate confiscating the local assets owned & rigorous imprisonment for cheating, stealing & concealing public wealth.

As reported, If 92 clients are associated with Sri Lanka there is a high possibility of group transactions interrelated to “international mafia circle”. It is interesting to bring to the notice the name list of 18% Sri Lanka passport & NIC holders.

Vasudeva Slams Government For Inaction Against Corrupt Individuals

Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara stated that even though the government repeatedly makes accusations on corruption, it has not shown real intent in taking steps against corrupted individuals.

Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, Nanayakkara said that the government does not seem to have any intention of revealing people who took money out of the country by illegal means.

He added that despite the accusations, no substantial investigations are being done even when the opportunity is there.

On Tuesday, Nanayakkara raised a question over the existence of 129 bank accounts belonging to 92 Sri Lankans at HSBC bank in Switzerland. The accounts owned by Sri Lankans reportedly had 85 million Swiss Francs.

However, Nanayakkara mentioned that when he raised the question the relevant minister had said that according to Sri Lankan law an investigation cannot be started due to a journalistic report.

Nanayakkara urged the government to amend these laws and said the opposition MPs will fully support such a move. He further said that he will once again raise the issue of Sri Lankans who had deposited money in foreign banks.

How soon authorities are capable of announcing the names of account holders, amount of money in & out with dates & source of funds.

If no investigation carried out due to journalistic report only, why not "Good governance" peep in for placing the petition at investigation department.

People are waiting to enjoy the fundamental of rights to have information, much debated subject. Authorities should not forget that people are counting the number of days daily.
