The difference between Gambling and Investing is dependent on whether one loses or gains.

Except with investing you may not gain either (although to a lesser degree compared to if you had gambled mindlessly). This isn't a black and white situation.

an investment is a monetary asset purchased with the idea that the asset will provide income in the future or appreciate and be sold at a higher price

Bolded what's appropriate.

Look I'm all for investing and I honestly believe people should make judgements based on the fundamentals of a company, its corporate governance and its valuation before putting their money anywhere. People who only look at simple technical analysis, beta values and price trends are the real gamblers. Day to day speculative gains are hard unless you're well connected, otherwise resort to long-term investments.

But to say "investing" implies gains is a misleading statement. Intelligent investing may have a higher degree of generating capital gains, but no one can predict the intricacies of the future.

Let's not cast it as black and white. It's a complicated subject and should be treated as such.
