Feb 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka's financial sector consolidation process, which was initiated by the previous government, will be halted until the parliamentary election is concluded, According to Central Bank sources.

Amalgamation or not has to be decided by Banks and market forces

Central bank role is to facilitate and guide genuinely

Agree. But in Financial sector Central Bank must ensure to stop the chances for monopoly and also perfect competition. I think the fundamental reason for CB earlier decision for consolidation was to bring the country's financial market into a Oligopoly market because lot of financial companies were present in the economy which seems to be too much.
