Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy was an official in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka from 1974-1989. He worked in the Economic Research, Statistics and Bank Supervision Divisions. During this time he was also seconded to the Ministry of Finance and Planning (1981-1989). He was employed by the Commonwealth Secretariat from 1990- 2008. During that time he held the positions, Director Economic Affairs Division and Deputy-Director, Secretary General's Office. He was subsequnetly Interim Director, Social Transformation Programme Division, Commonwealth Secretariat (Jan-July 2010). He completed his undergraduate degree at Cambridge University and obtained his Doctorate at the University of Sussex. He retired from the Commonwealth Secretariat in 2008, having served in various capacities at the Secretariat, including as its Director of Economic Affairs, since 1990. He is the brother of Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy, former Under-Secretary-General, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict to the UN.Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy also serves on John Keells Board but if he gets the Central Bank Governorship he will quit the John Keells Holdings Board.
W. A. Wijewardena served as Deputy Governor at Central Bank of Sri Lanka until July 7, 2009. Mr. Wijewardena is an Eminent Economist. Mr. Wijewardene was a Career Central Banker in Sri Lanka and served as Deputy Governor for nine-years until 2009. He was the Chairman of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board. He was instrumental in restructuring the state pension fund, the Employees Provident Fund, launching the islands first microfinance project, starting the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka, modernising the nation s biggest savings bank the National Savings Bank and forming a regional development bank, the Ruhunu Development Bank. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. Mr. Wijewardene has a Masters degree in Economics from the University of York, UK, a postgraduate degree in Applied Statistics and a first class honors degree in Public Administration from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura (Sri Lanka).
