President Maithripala Sirisena's brother Priyantha Sirisena alias 'Weli Raju', has been assaulted by an unidentified group, the President's family sources told the Daily News last night.
Priyantha Sirisena, who is known to be a businessman engaged in sand-mining, has been hit with an axe or a weapon of that sort, police sources told the Daily News. The attack had taken place near a vehicle repair centre in the Hathare Ela area, in Polonnaruwa. Immediately after the incident, Sirisena was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Polonnaruwa Hospital.
He was scheduled to be transferred to the Colombo National Hospital on Thursday night, family sources also added. Speaking to the Daily News, a member of the Sirisena family said the authorities were taking measures to airlift the businessman to Colombo for further treatment, despite difficulties arising due to inclement weather.source dailynews. .
