there are three brokerages that i deal with. all three of them asked me to buy this. that was when there was a ton being traded at 130.

My guess is that someone big is trying to exit the share and all the little frys are picking it up.

More than 2.5 million shares has traded today. SINI is likely to be the seller. Let's wait and see the announcement.

That obviously was SINI handing a piece of cake each to a lot of retailers. It was nicely done. A little buying in the morning to push the prices up in a big way and get the retailers interested and once they swarm like flies sell bit by bit. SINI's new broker must be a real pro. I take my hat off to you sir.

Earlier when they tried to sell, they managed to dispose only about 200,000 and drove the price down more than 10%

Footnote: Unlike the other illiquid shares that jump up for no apparent reason, SINS is actually a pretty decent counter.

it was either sini & ceyb unit trust. I'd put my money on SINI. It's looked like all the brokers bought into it.

SINS is a decent share but PE is a little high. If this doesn't run tomorrow morning I'm dumping my hold.

why SINI should drop SINS?
below is quick glance,
EPS for 31st June= 1.04
EPS for 31st Spe= 0.82
EPS for 31st Dec= 0.516
EPS for 31st march= 1.99
it is 385% improvement.

but i admit, PER is bit higher.

SINI as you know is seriously short of cash. They mentioned in their annual report that they intend to sell their SINS holdings relieve the pressure. The profits SINI showed on their last two interim financial statements came through revaluation of the SINS shares they held.

Last quarter they sold 200,000 shares.

I think Singer Sri Lanka PLc (SINS) can be more profitable if they import products directly from China or from any other supplier instead of buying through the local assembly plants Singer Industries (SINI) and REGNIS owned by the Principals.

This situation occurred as the result of the recent relaxation of the taxes and import duty by the Government. Transfer pricing between group companies are usually done in a way both manufacturer and distributor equally benefit from the transaction. This is currently disadvantages to SINS.

If you look at the balance sheet of SINS you would realize that their biggest asset 'Singer' brand name is not capitalized. What is the value of the Brand? Who owns the brand? These are questions you need to ask yourself.

Also there is talk that Principals may close down Singer Industries and REGNIS in order improve cost efficiencies of Singer Sri Lanka. Also some people are speculating a potential divestment by the majority shareholders.

Things are yet to unfold. Therefore I think it is more prudent to evaluate pros and cons than speculative buying of shares.
