Sri-Lankan bull market has not completed yet. It has more legs. Time to time there were short-term sell off in stocks, volatility and market pause etc. Market is not in the first stage of current bull market now. Therefore, how do we pick winning stocks in the market?

Look for stocks in the accumulation stage
Pay attention to value, growth and future earnings
Look for turnaround opportunities in the market
Learn to pick stocks according to the stage of market
Pay attention to out of companies and sectors as well
Balance your portfolio periodically
Do not panic in bull market
Pay attention to both cyclical and non cyclical sectors

In bull market, short term pullback, market pause and volatility create great opportunity.

Not all are good at trading in a Bull Market!

For sure you get instant mixed results.
Most of the time short runs with losses.

Parliamentary elections and political uncertainty effect the market.
Mostly Election Announcement Next week and election end of june.
If announce the election ASPI will come down below 6800- .
Then some good stocks can buy at 20% Discount price.

We should see winners in the market in the following industries during remaining stages of current bull market

Diversify
Manufacturing
Tea plantations
Poultry
Bank and Finance

We should be able to identify best managed companies in the above categories in the coming quarters and years. Innovative mangers know how to mange their business successfully while reducing their risk and identifying opportunities.

Following types of stocks also should watch in the current situation. They should outperform other stocks in the third and final stages of current bull market.

Food and food related stocks
Utility stocks
Health Care stocks

Among above three, some food related stocks have very attractive value and strong outlook now.

Other factors to watch

Low inflation
Low interest rate
Higher agriculture output such as rice, maize and soya output locally due to good weather
Good hydro power generation
Increased tourists numbers
Can expect rising tea prices in the coming weeks and months (it is time to follow tea price chart) Prices of Tea stocks are at the rock bottom now. In higher tea prices they can appreciate rapidly.
Lower raw materials locally as well as globally (they will go down further toward end of 2016 and 2017 in a strong USD environment.
Ability to maintain higher growth rate (over 5) annually in South Asia including Sri-Lanka.
Attractive valuation due to correction of few overvalued counters.
There are plenty of value stocks available in the market now
Stability in rupee due to rupee devaluation in advance.

If we analyse market before the current major uptrend we saw hardly any liquidity for some illiquid stocks. Gradually we saw much improved liquidity for some of the above types of stocks when top market players tried to invest and trade those stocks. Similarly, we should see much improved liquidity for some of the remaining illiquid stocks as well when we see strong market during remaining stages of current bull market. We can see attractive illiquid stocks in many sectors in the CSE. It is also time to identify few such attractive illiquid values stocks. On valuation those stocks also should go up in this bull market.
