Hi guys,

I would like to know your opinion regarding the above subject. Purpose may be personal; that I'm going to collect several counters under 10 Rs to a separate CDS account for my kids' future. He is just 8 months old and I already have a CDS account set it up for this purpose. I want to hold those counters for at least 10 - 15 years untouched.
1. What are the counters under 10 Rs in the current market would be potential to grow into successful businesses?? (Capital gain in 10 - 15 years time)
2. What are the counters under 10 Rs have being given regular dividends so far ?? (Positive cash flow)

If you can rank the related counters that would be handy for all of us

Add VPEL.N to that.. Even if you look at them sector-wise, these have good potential to perform in the long term. I think you have made a good decision LoveMoney.

If you are talking of 10~ 15 years, ATL can be the biggest one!
Make your own judgement anyway based on fundamentals.

private power sector companies will have tough future with the full operations of Norochchole Coal Power plant. So better not to pick VPEL, PAP, VLL.

I forgot to add MULL in above list. MULL is slowly growing up

I really don't think Norochcholai and Sampur coal power plants would be enough for the growing demand for next 10-15 years; However most of the listed mini-hydros have signed up purchasing agreements for next 10-15 years with CEB.

It's a very lucrative business, once implemented- no raw materials needed as in fuel driven plants, maintenance only.

I would say not to touch HPWR not other mini hydro power companies due to the reason you mentioned. CEB pays premium price to thermal but with an option to shutdown/not to purchase if cheap sources gives good generation.

I am a CEB electrical engineer work in Coal power plant as instrumentation and control of turbine. Don't be afraid to buy shares of renewable energy power suppliers. They can be connected to the grid at any time they want. When they have enough water or wind they can supply the power. CEB cannot control the power purchasing of them. So the only thing affect to their dispatch is the water flow, wind availability and the time period of the contract (Normally 15-20 years).
If the company produce more than 10MW most of them are catogorized in an independent power producers (IPP). CEB can curtail their power dispatch by daily. They are loosing their profit because of the coal power plant. Eg : ACE power Embilipitiya, Horana, Matara (Aitken Spence). Their contract period is not so long. They will remove their power plants in recent time. Embilipitiya closes in 2015.

So don't be afraid about the renewable power producers.
Very Happy

Great to see a real investor with that kind of time horizon. I think if you think this way, your children would be financially secure for sure. I wish more and more people would realize that investing and creating wealth takes time and does not happen overnight.
I think some of the sectors you should be looking at for the long term is healthcare. As our Per Capita increases, more and more people will be in the middle class of the society and would require private healthcare. Also, more and more people are living longer now and would depend on private healthcare than for the state provided healthcare. ASIR is something that I have looked at and I'm invested in. ASIR is a holding company within the healthcare sector that has the highest amount of beds currently. With the new hospital (Central) coming into profitability, they will expand for sure. Softlogic mandatory offer at 9 for ASIR shows the value.
Another company I will look at would be DIST. They generate a lot of cash from liquor sales and spends it on acquisitions rather than paying a lot of dividends. Which is great for future growth.
Do your own research on these and any other company and don't depend on others for research.
Invest on a regular basis rather than trying to catch a bottom of the market.
You have a long time horizon and you should look at companies that reinvests their money rather than companies that pay huge dividends now.

Good Luck.
