A high-profile mission from the European Union, comprising officials from the European Commission (EC) and the European External Action Service (EEAS), will be visiting Sri Lanka from 19-22 January, in order to discuss various issues with the Government, including the possibility of regaining the GSP+ facility.

During the visit the European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (ECCSL), in collaboration with the Apparel Exporters Association and the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, will organize a breakfast seminar on 22 January at Hilton Colombo Residence (JAIC) from 8.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The main focus of this seminar will be on the possibility of Sri Lanka regaining the GSP Plus facility.

This event will provide a unique opportunity for the business community to directly interact with the EU’s trade policymakers. For registrations and further information on this seminar please contact the ECCSL by emailing info@eccsl.lk or calling

The key speakers at this event will be Nikos Zaimis – Deputy Head of Unit at the Directorate General for Trade, Sustainable Development and General System of Preferences (GSP) at the European Commission who will address the participants on the key features of the GSP Plus scheme as well as provide insight into what Sri Lanka needs to do to regain GSP Plus. Andreas Julin, the Desk Officer for Sri Lanka at the Directorate General for Trade at the European Commission in Brussels, will speak on EU-Sri Lanka trade.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Harsha De Silva, will speak on the Sri Lankan Government’s approach to trade with the European Union. The State Minister for International Trade, Sujeewa Senasinghe and Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Malik Samarawickrema will be part of the panel of experts at the seminar.

Mahesh Hirdaramani, Director of the Hirdaramani Group of Companies, will speak on the impact of the GSP+ loss on the apparel sector and the benefits of Sri Lanka regaining GSP + from the private sector perspective. Dr. Saman Kelegama, Executive Director of the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), will provide a policy overview on Sri Lanka’s trade with the EU.

Both the MGT & TJL has good long term upside potential. I have started to accumulate slowly during this blood bath but still the share price didn't fall much compared to others given the strong outlook of the stocks.

Snap shot of TJL & MGT

TJL

Issued share capital = 695,949,833  shares

NAV = Rs13.03 (before issuing 35,197,368 shares to Ocean Mauritius Ltd)

Trading price = Rs32.80

EPS = Rs1.02

PER = Rs32.15

PBV = 2.5

MGT

Issued share capital = 207,740,888 shares

NAV = Rs11.95

Trading price = Rs19.80

EPS = Rs1.0

PER = 19.80 times

PBV = 1.65

As per this comparison it is dead sure that MGT has a fair value well above to present trading price of Rs19.80 and TJL is little bit over valued counter at the moment.

When compared these two share MGT now trading at a discount price levels than TJL.

The lowest risk share in  CSE now is MGT. Wait and see couple of days/weeks to see the real strength of MGT.

They will come up with a decent dividend to surprise the share holders. Can u all remember all the companies coming under Dammika perera has a good history of paying hefty dividends.
