@pac-man during MR regime corporate tax was 28%. This government brought it down to 15% for most of the companies and Finance sector increased to 30%.  Increasing from 15% to 17.5% isn't that big of a deal cause still most of the companies will enjoy more than 10% savings on corporate tax.

I dont know why this govt decreased corporate tax rate to 15% at the first place when we're in dire need of fiscal consolidation. if you look at it 28% tax rate was one of the lowest levels in the region. There was no outcry from the private sector saying corporate tax rate was high.

CGT tax will have a short term bad effect on the equity market but in the long run equity market should recover strongly if this govt can increase tax revenue levels in a sensible way without hurting business confidence.

Equity market performance reflects the Economy state of health. If the economy is doing well equity market will do well. Now we're in serious crisis due to this govt lack of direction. At least now PM came in and put his foot down saying we need increase our direct tax revenue by taking hard measures.

Government reduced the tax rates to encourage business community & attract foreign investors as well. Response from foreigners was not as expected due to tight monetary regulations. No alternative other than collecting additional taxes to meet urgent obligations.
In next year there may be another increase of tax rate which is inevitable that will not hit hard to corporations. Everything depends on efficiency of tax administration & collections.

Corporate tax, income tax and possibly business licenses will increase time to time as they will be the main source of the government direct taxes. Government plans to make the direct:indirect tax ratio to 40:60 by 2020 from current 15:85.
