President Maithripala Sirisena should be held responsible for the alleged faults of the previous Government, because he was a one of its Cabinet Ministers, claimed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.

Speaking at an occasion held in Embilipitiya Rajapaksa said if there were unsuitable decisions of the past administration, these were all taken with the approval of the then Cabinet.

“I did not implement anything without the Cabinet approval and if they were wrong the responsibility should go to everyone in the then Cabinet. No one can blame only me,” Rajapaksa claimed.

He also said the Government should do something beneficial for the country without accusing the previous Government all the time.

“Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe are always pointing fingers at the past regime at any time. However they did not start a single worthwhile project for the country,” he charged.

Rajapaksa also said he was disappointed about the Government moves to reduce subsidies on agriculture and irrigation.

“When the United National Party (UNP) came to power in 2001 they said they will curtail the funds allocated for agriculture and irrigation purposes. They said they will reclaim paddies to build factories. However those ideas were rejected by people,” he said.

Rajapaksa added the UNP led Government urges the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs to admit their rejected old economic policies which can destroy the country’s economy. (CG)

MR has no shame. He was the president and ruled almost single handedly. Borrowed upto unbearable levels and knowing problems would arise in 2015 2016 had early election. He lost because we arr lucky as a country.

Now he is trying to use same problems created by him to get back to power. We are lacking honest gentlemen type politicians in this countty. MR has no exception he is one of the typical kind. HOPE people of this country decide wisely and choose good people.

I personally beleives that government should do something to improve IQ levels of the people to improve overall situation. That is the best thing to do to defeat these kind of political people.

Truth is only few capable of understanding & accepting the extent of dictatorial system while majority was intentionally dumb or forcibly made dead silence in parliament.

Best answer is the self consciousness (an alert cognitive state in which person is aware of himself & his actions) of the individual over a contentious speech.

Self consciousness is very rare these days when power greedy politicians run a country, dictatorial is of two types implied or expressed, now it is implied and very difficult to detect implied dictatorship under appaya and ponnaya, they have taken entire country for ride by blackmailing the opposition, this country badly needs democracy now

In my opinion going by what had happened and what is happening the earlier regime and yahapalanaya are two sides of the same coin. Whatever soap you may apply on them one cannot cleanup these politicians. Dishonesty is not only about robbing wealth but robbing the confidence of the people too. So, both have equally contributed.

At the end of the day we are fools and will remain as fools!

Ryan, you better take a bit of a break because you might kick yourself because the present ruling will continue for another 10 years. It is better that we can use our energy for the betterment of ourself rather than just waste it for nothing.

Both regime at fault, Mahinda did lot of things for the country. His govt developed the country but some of the projects he undertook was done without proper planing.
Previous regime even though they build things they didn't tackle the deficit issue and revenue issue of the country. Which led this country into a debt trap.
Current regime even though they Understood there was a debt trap they took the bait and got caught. Without tackling debt issue or revenue issue they took our country into further into abyss.
Best example issuing Dollar denominated 6months bond at 4.95%. What sought of a rate is that?? This makes mahinda borrowing rates look reasonable.

Mahinda was also saying something similar 2 months before his defeat, very uncertain, very uncertain, by the way these loonies are doing within 10 months appaya and ponnaya will be nowhere god bless both
