There were rumors recently within and outside the share market that multi-millionaire businessman Dhammika Perera has bought the Colombo Stock Exchange listed Anilana Hotels and Properties PLC.
Several such news reports too had attracted attention towards this issue. However, up to now there has been no confirmation regarding such a transaction from either party.
Anilana Hotels and Properties PLC is a listed company, which meant it is a public shareholding company. If any sensitive issues arise within such a company, then it has to be revealed to the public immediately. This clearly stated in Appendix 8A of the Stock Exchange regulations related to corporate disclosures.
Appendix 8A states when such disclosures should be made. Appendix 8 states that in the event of a change of ownership in a company, it has to be disclosed as soon as possible.
Below is an excerpt for the Appendix:
Some 50 per cent shares of Anilana Hotels and Properties are held by Asanga Seneviratne, who is the Managing Director. By 31 December 2015, 27 per cent of the total equity was listed under his name, 12 per cent under Investor Access Equities Pvt Ltd where he is the Managing Director and 8.67 per cent under Asia Fort Asset Management Ltd where he is a Director.
Below are the details of the main shareholders of Anilana Hotels and Properties:
Accordingly, if any changes to occur in the ownership of Anilana Hotels and Properties, then Asanga Seneviratne has to definitely sell his share ownership. But no such transactions have been made through the stock market during the past month.
Below is a complete report of share transactions of Anilana Hotels and Properties from 01 April to 12 May 2016.
Based on this, there are no evidence of any transactions that could cause a change of ownership in Anilana Hotels and Properties.
As stated here, over 13 million ordinary shares of the company have been transacted on 05 May 2016 at prices ranging from Rs. 3.00 to Rs. 03.70. The date 05 May is when the ‘Dhammika-Anilana’ news reports appeared first on the web media sites.
On inquiry, several stock market analysts confirmed that no transactions that could affect a change of ownership in Anilana Hotels and Properties have been made during the past few days. They pointed out further that the particular media reports could mislead the public.
During the 1st quarter of 2016, Asanga Seneviratne had sold nearly 03 million from his shareholdings. When compared to the total 493,308,514 shares of the company, this is less than 01 per cent. Hence it is clear that this is inadequate to cause an ownership change of the company.
Meanwhile, on 05 May the company’s Executive Director Manjula Viraj Perera had announced that he has resigned from his post with effect from 30 April 2016.
Apart from this, there have been no significant changes reported at Anilana Hotels and Properties PLC during the last six weeks.
