We have to face it.
The govt should explore best possible options to settle in new situation. Smart nations win in these situations.

New govt should take this as a challenge and face it smartly without making it as an excuse for their failures, if any.

We have no control over BREXIT & AREXIT.

Wonder what AREXIT is?

It is whether Arjuna should exit from the Central Bank or not.Brexit - Pre Poll Votes and Global Economic Impact. - Sounds disturbing. Icon_lol

There were all types of worries in the world.

How about following problems in the past?

Depreciation of USD against other currencies,
Greek crisis
Euro crisis
End of bond purchase schemes
Housing and credit crisis
Fed rates
The latest one is Brexist

When compare with other problems that world faced, BRexit is nothing. But if that happen there are winners as well. Some countries will have more exports to UK. Their average citizens will have some chance to buy houses. Now they cannot afford to buy houses due to foreign buyers and their speculation on houses. Some professional organizations there also will benefit.   Small exporters, energy-hungry industry and some services will all thrive without the burden of EU regulation.

According to some analysts the EU does not make a great deal of difference to the British economy. Industries that will escape heavy regulation will flourish.  Some Countries will be able to increase their trade with UK. Some say having EU membership, they have one of the biggest trade deficits in the world. Small, export-oriented companies that are making stuff for the American or Asian markets also should benefit. Energy intensive should be winner. When they can go away with common Agricultural policy they will import more butter and meat from other countries such as New Zealand and Argentina, wine from South Africa and other South American countries.
In short, there are winners as well as losers. This is not the end of world as well.

Its interesting to see what will happen to housing prices if there is a brexit.

Leave argue;
When brexit take place, all foreigners will leave UK, hence housing prices will come down so everyone can afford one. with Low demand from foreigners housing prices / rent will be affordable.

Remain argue;
If we leave, GBP will drop by 20% and all the money around the world will again flood into UK housing market as with 20% discount on the houses in UK will look cheap to foreign investors.

Both parties have valid arguments. At the moment Leave voters are leading. By the way Sri Lankans living in UK can vote as we are a commonwealth country. But EU citizens living in UK are not allowed to vote.  Very Happy

Agree VP, the EU minus Britain cannot have any significant impact on Sri Lanka compared to the crashing of China's stock market followed by the slowing down of their economy. Problems have always been there and will always be there, what matters is how we can sail through it taking advantage of positive or negative outcomes.

The good sign is that there was no big selling by the foreigners today.

Miscellaneous arguments are made of Brexit with subsequent consequences affecting EU & Britain. One part is possible shattering financial system from west to east irrespective of the status of rich or poor nations. In worst case scenario, what would be government strategy to eliminate or minimize the economic disadvantages falling on us.

Some Brexit Losers

EU countries, British pound, Euro and housing market (there could be some sell-off in UK financial stocks and real estate related stocks as well in the short run)

Some Brexit Winners

Common wealth countries, Food and health care, leisure sectors such as restaurants and hotel stocks, some professional related stocks.

Just like from other crisis, intelligent investors will look for great investment opportunities taking advantage from this Brexit Saga.

The Latest
A Labour Party Member of the British Parliament Jo Cox, has died after she was shot and stabbed in an assault in her constituency.
Police said the Labour MP for Batley and Spen, was left bleeding on the ground after the attack in West Yorkshire.
Brexit - Pre Poll Votes and Global Economic Impact. - Sounds disturbing. Jo-Cox-271x180
A man was arrested nearby. One eyewitness told the BBC they heard her attacker shout “Put Britain first” at least twice beforehand.
Tributes flooded in from politicians including David Cameron, Jeremy Corbyn and US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Cox’s husband Brendan said she would want people “to unite to fight against the hatred that killed her.”
Vote Leave and Remain have both suspended campaigning in the EU referendum in light of the attack

It is very simple. We have to adjust according to the situation. Initially, there will be demand for defensive stocks such as food, health care, restaurants and hotel stocks in the UK. We could expect some volatility or sell-off  in financial stocks and real estate stocks in EU and UK in the short run. Globally, it could be mixed results.

https://ukinvestormagazine.co.uk/buy-rating-defensive-stock-provide-safe-haven-brexit-uncertainity-2/
Defensive Stock to Provide Safe Haven in Brexit Uncertainity

It is wise to identify companies which can have demand for their products and services irrespective having Brexit or not.

Sri-Lanka will need following products and services in the coming years

Food
Health care
Hotel services
Hydro power
Oil and gas
Banking services
Other important product and services depend on the local and world trend

We should find some diamonds and hidden diamonds in above areas. Market can go up with all type of worries.

Europe and Pakistan had some of the worst worries in the world during last five to six years. Don’t forget that mountain of debt levels that they have, unemployment and big trade deific its etc. Still they have attractive investment opportunities and trading opportunities. In addition, they are having some of the longest and strongest bull markets in the world while having strong sell off, volatility and correction time to time. They are going to have another opportunity due to this Brexit.

AFP - European and Asian stock markets rebounded strongly yesterday, with traders signalling that the tragic murder of a pro-Europe lawmaker in Britain could swing the upcoming referendum vote to remain in the EU.

Short term predicons, short term panic and overconfidence on some speculative stocks could bring some poor results.

How some fund mangers and some predictions went wrong?

They said South Asia has political problems, currency drop, trade deficits and other issues and therefore it is wise to target other emerging and frontier markets.

South Asia is having one of the best runs in global stock markets after all types of sell-offs and correction etc.

All types of sell-off and foreign outflow in south Asia created some of the great opportunities for intelligent market participants  though Sri-Lanka was behind when compare with India and Pakistan. Pakistan is the real runner in global stock markets. India is also having another strong run again. Sri-Lanka should be next. All south Asia should outperform other Asian markets in 2016/17.Despite some issues, still south Asia has one of the fastest growth rates in the world.

They said sell all assets in January including Asian currencies

This created another great opportunity for market participants. They are buying Asian assets again. Globally some investors made short term strong trading return even from some commodities such as iron ore and gold

They said Euro and Greek cirisis and other debt crisis will send world into recession.

That also made great opportunities

After fed increased their first rate hike some advised to avoid stocks

Those who ignore all these types of things have become winners now.

The latest one is Brexit.
