Country and the stock market prospered without the GSP. GSP is a carrot dangled by the west to control its suppliers. As a country GSP could be changed through easy adjustment in the exchange rates instead of making it a political achievement.

Sri lanka will be required to imports 80% of the raw materials required for the industry byway of  fabric, trimmings, except labour. Sri Lanka will have more garment factory workers paid in rupees and most will be made by few industry giants and will be syphoned out or retained abroad.

Accepting GSP as a country not only show ourselves as a poor/allied nation but likely to worsen our economic situation in the long run. Good Luck Sri Lanka.

First EU talked about quality control reason for the suspension of GSP plus concession to SriLanka. Now they are trying to influence the internal politics.
If they want to topple the present government they won’t hesitate to impose the GSP plus ban once again.

Economist point of view what you said is correct. In few years EU seems to be collapsed as United Kingdom (UK) now in the process of exit from EU. France and Germany seem to be in the same path soon. France’s new presidential hopeful, Emmanuel Macron now even talk about the fraexit.

Some of the Sri Lankan products are comparatively high quality than the Indian or china’s products. If we increase the products quality (competitiveness) further and reduce the production cost, no need to depend on GSP plus. GSP plus concession receiving countries goods are comparatively cheaper than no GST plus receiving countries goods with in EU countries due to the GSP Plus tax concession.
