I have been reading a lot about Expo & was weighing the pluses & minuses. Now my response is NEGATIVE for Expo IPO.

BTW, I have purchased reasonable stakes from previous IPOs i.e., UBC & FLCH. That also gave me discouraging signals towards taking part in future IPOs.

I am buying Expo! What's the bet No body will Sell on first day; I heard Nimal Perera is investing over Rs.300 million at Rs.14 per share , LR Global is investing Rs.500 million in Rs.14 per share and John Keells is again subscribed to IPO at Rs.14 per share adding another Rs.1 billion...Guys these are very strong information that I got from a reliable source in the industry.

I am going to invest in Expo anyway. Because I am talking about Freight Business, Commodity Business and Transportation..I believe Expo is as strong as John Keells.

Nobody invests in a dud company; Why do you think JKH invested there because it is strong.

Just even Mano Selvanathan and Israel Paulraj of Carsons who ran a dud company WAPO that was up for sale last year thought to invest in Expolanka because they saw it is a good company to buy and create wealth in the long run.

I will put my money Expolanka anyway

Freight Business;

When you have General Service Agent for Airline you earn between 10% to 12% from Cargo Volumes' Invoice Value

This means when they have a strong Freight Forwarding company network added with GSA network of KLM,Qatar Airways,Virgin Atlantic,Royal Jordanian,Air France,Saudi Arabian Airlines, and American Airlines for Dubai and Swiss World for Bangladesh you are talking about big money flowing in to your balance sheet from Freight Forwarding.

Usually a single small Freight Invoice cost for each Export and Import is roughly above US $ 1500 for Bulk goods..so guys and understand the global business space today garments are moving in to Bangladesh for low cost employment and those garments exports has to be send via either sea or air that means all those volumes are shipped via freight forwarders.

And in Arab Emirates (Dubai,Sharjah,Abu Dhabi) Expolanka has the American Airlines GSA that means big volumes of freight movement.

Expo has few leisure and tourism promotion entities such as Travel Agencies: What does that mean- It means 7% to 10% earnings from an Air Ticket Value of a Traveler around the world. This is business man.

What is logistics: It is containers carrying big volumes and charging money for weight.

Expolanka is in to logistics and transport it is obvious today if you travel from Colombo to Jaffna or Colombo to Down South you will spot 1-5 containers a day on your journey either way that has the Expo among other global logistics operators such as APL,Hanjin, Maersk; Don't you happy to say that you own that company's shares!

And we all of us know the potential Earnings of Tea!

That is why you should BUY Expolanka! I am buying Expolanka!

Very Happy

2) consider whether you want to pay more than 2 twice as much as the 2 largest listed companies have paid for this share. (Dumb money always ends up in the hands of smart money)
3) look at the performance of UBC, HPFL, and more importantly FLCH
4) at what time is the shares likely to debut in the market.

Tubal, Agreed.

It is better to concentrate on the secondary market rather than IPOs at present situation. (This is my personal view !)

Yes... Business Basil...EXPO LANKA is very good company. What ever you said every thing is correct. I am agreed. But it is not good that given a private placement of a share for 6 SLRS on 31st December 2010 to the big fishs and after six months ccoming as 14 SLRS share for us. I was waiting to buy as this is my first IPO. but now i am also negative about this.

Personally, I am going in for this IPO for a very small quantity (in the range of 2000- 4000 shares).

I think everyone agrees that ExpoLanka is one of the largest diversified businesses. As far as I am concerned it is as diversified as much as JKH is. If the share price falls on the first day I will buy more at the price. If it rises, I may hold on to what I've got.

A note on this post: Note that this is strictly my personal view. The amount I am investing is an amount I can afford to lose even if the share price falls all the way down to cents. Don't put all your money in this one unless you can afford to lose it. Basically, this is a bet and I am taking it.

As I went thru the topics under EXPOLANKA. Alot of them have given negative reviews about this IPO. Appreciate all of their comments. This forum wouldnt have any value if we didnt have such people. But as we complain, value and growth investor, including hign net worth, retail and non retail investors have already applied to this IPO. As I hear, its already been oversubscribed. I have a feeling this would break the record of UBC's IPO.

We are not talking about a normal, business here. Its a diversified conglomerate we are looking at. A very high potential one. It's true. and I appreciate everyone views on this IPO, it has been unfair. PP 6 to 14 .
They have bad debt for 900 odd million and will use our money to settle it. Well havent all IPO's and the upcoming IPO's will use to clear their bad debt? It looks unfair, it seems the valuation is on the same basis. And the latest news also mentioned, the investors are not short term investor but long term.

My personal opinion is this. We should not let our emotions get in our way of our business. Emotions gives us nothing but pain and losses. Because at the end of the day, its nothing personal, it will be strictly business. The investors who can afford to buy will buy with facing a risk of losing, and they will continue to buy as it dips.
Expolanka is not a local business, a mulitnational. It strongly depends on the enviroment of the world economy and our goverment policies.
Mostly everyone have negative feelings. But if you done your homework, your gut says to go. Then its way to go, else you will find hard to sleep.

It will open on 12th. It will be over subcribed, and it will come to the market in a months time. But if you have other investments in mind, go for it instead of this, because us complainin about this unfair pricing has not changed anything but created a very hot topic to follow.

This is my personal view.

This is definitely a good investment...there is no doubt about it. The figures posted are very healthy and this is a very solid company. Besides, Expo is a company that follows sound ethical standards and is a dynamic and well managed group. My advice to investors is... ignore the negative comments that has been posted in this forum last couple of days. They are making unwarranted noise about the price of the PP shares. The PP investors have given enough comfort that they are not going to offload their shares. In fact they may in all probability subscribe more. I say "go for it" and be a part of a record breaking IPO.

Lets face facts. The company wanted funds to settle their borrowings. Who can provide that sort of funds except for the rich institutions. The owners disposed part of their shares to the rich investors for a value which at that time was fair. There is certainly nothing wrong with that and this is not an ethical issue. As a result, the numbers are now very much healthy and strong. The IPO price of Rs. 14 is a very fair price based on the company's current figures. This company, is one of the best companies today with high respect in the business environment. The vision of the promoters is that every small investor should be part of the ownership structure. I am sure every small investor will be proud to be a stakeholder in this company.

if they really need money in that time why dont they go for IPO at 6 . I am sure many of the retailers buy at 6 rupees.
the thing is they only gave shares for thier freinds and now they want to sell at higher price to poor retailers.

Definitely a buy. Majority of the stock brokers are of the same view. Those who think of buying in the secondary market at less than Rs. 14 are going to be disappointed. This IPO is already heavily oversubscribed. My advice to retail investors is buy and hold if possible. You will still gain if you want to offload when trading begins.

yeah i think shar pretty much answered ur question here....yeah the 6 rupee shares were issued a while back...i think close to a year back....and yeah..it was the personal stakes of some of the owners...as opposed to the company shares itself...so as far as i see it...its a clear soup here...buy it at 14...and i think that it could go up to abt 25 easily on the first trading day Very Happy

i think you are day dreaming

The company is respected and well managed, and too good to miss out. Even those who had reservations are coming out in support of "Buy...short term to long term"
