It states that the hotel industry in Sri Lanka currently comprises of a number of hotels that have not been refurbished owing to the decline in tourist arrivals in the past few years.
According to the research, the country is witnessing a revival in tourism, and requires more hotel rooms to sustain and reap the best from its tourism potential. The country currently has 14,161 registered hotel rooms, and the majority of these rooms are concentrated in Colombo and Greater Colombo areas. It also mentions that there are 3,190 rooms in the Colombo City and 2,494 in the Greater Colombo Area. This is a 22% and 17% percent share respectively.
The research report further stated that the Kuchchaveli Resort Development, coming under the Eastern Province Region Development, is expected to include more than 3,000 hotel and resort rooms along with theme and water park facilities.
