Sri Lanka Hayleys group net up 72-pct
Aug 05, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Hayleys diversified group said net profits for the June 2011 quarter rose 72 percent to 268 million rupees with revenues growing 26 percent to 14.77 billion rupees.
The firm reported earnings of 3.58 rupees per share for the quarter.
Purification Products contributed with a higher contribution to turnover and a useful contribution to operating profit despite challenging operating conditions, he said.
Gloves had earned revenues of 3.4 billion and 269 million in operating profits, plantations 2.05 billion in revenues and 378 million in operating profits, purification products (activated carbon) revenues of 1.8 billion rupees and operating profits of 150 million rupees.
Transport had brought revenues of 1.1 billion rupees and operating profits of 133 million rupees.
Hayleys chairman Mohan Pandithage said in a statement that textiles which showed losses last year brought revenues of 1.4 billion rupees and a recovery was expected later in the year.
The fibre sector which had seen raw material shortages last year had contributed 1.2 billion rupees to turnover and brought in profits of 6.7 million rupees, recovering from losses a year earlier.
In the Leisure sector, the performance of Hotel Services (Ceylon) PLC was affected due to ongoing refurbishment of the Ceylon Continental hotel, the firm said.
