according to the yesterday night Aljazira news, some foreign mkts ban the short selling to reduce the downward trend & spaulations.

what about us???? Laughing

*Trading is order-driven. There are two types of orders: “Limit” and “Market”.Trading is Monday to Friday (holidays excluded) between 9.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m.19 There is a pre-opening session between 9.00 a.m. and 9.30a.m. to allow Limit orders to be submitted for the opening auction at 9.30 a.m. The system and the rules of the CSE allow for block order trading and for crossing of orders. Short selling is not allowed under the rules of the CSE. To monitor for this, the trading system automatically checks with CDS on order entry that the seller holds the required number of shares. There appears to be no desire on the part of the SEC or the CSE to
allow short-selling having seen the effect that it has had in the past on some markets where there are no controls on short-selling. However, if a derivatives market is launched, this approach will have to be revisited as it would appear to be illogical to allow someone to be able to short the market in futures and options but not to do so in the cash market."(page 107-note 390)
