Profit for June quarter is more than during entire previous year.
Dividend, interest and other income have contributed generously!
Very Happy

Looks very impressive, but huge part of their income is coming from other operating income category not from their hotel operations.

apparently this place is famous for prostitution. That would technically count as another 'operating income' Question

Stop looking at this as a hotel. Currently this is set up like an investment trust that happens to own a hotel.

The balance sheet has Property (the hotel) carried at a book value of Rs 28 per share but this is dwarfed by Investments with a BOOK value of Rs 112, Cash per share of Rs 70 and loans to (probably) related parties of Rs 50.

The hotel just makes up around 10% of teh balance sheet.

I think the hotel was closed for renovation for about 4 months last year.

Thanks Antonym for sharing this. Innam is spot-on, RENU should no longer be analysed as a hotel. It is now more of an investment trust with added income from its hotel operations.

In fact these results have not come as a surprise to me. We discussed RENU's potential to report exceptional earnings growth in this quarter. Read our previous discussion in the below thread.

http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t3736-renu-results-mar-2011#26277

I said in that thread,

I have calculated the anticipated dividend income for RENU for the Mar - Jun 2011 quater at Rs. 56 million. That is Rs. 8 per share. This will be reflected in the other income category of next quaterly report. (Dividends income calculated based on RENU's portfolio as published in the last available annual report)

On top of this, the company has shown remarkable increase in the profit from hotel operations in the recently published financial report which is a good sign.

Overall the future of RENU is promising to me. Do your own analysis and decide.

RENU has posted Rs. 54.6 million as dividend income, not too far away from my estimate back in May 2011.

This is another share I really liked and I told people few months back to collect this at lower levels before this quarter results!
People who messaged me should know that's this was one of the number 1 shares i told to get few months back! I also wish I had bought a bit more than 200 shares of RENU now though! DIMO and SING cost too much Sad

In fact the best product mix of a hotel + Inv. trust Wink

Also this has a very good working capital due to less current liabilities. NAVPS @ 258.90 so this trades at a good value for it..

for last 3 financial years ( up to 31.03.2010 ), they declared dividend on the month of September? Can we expect a considerable dividend this time?

I anticipate that the announcement will come next week, and payment in September. (That's been the pattern.) Last year, they paid Rs 5.50. With performance having improved and being cash rich, RENU ought to pay at least Rs 6 or Rs 7 this year.

As innam pointed out, they have cash & bank balances of Rs 500 million - or Rs 71 per share. I wonder what they are planning to do with it. Another hotel, I think...

This is one share of few which was not collapse under bear power instead run in a trading range. I hope this time the upper line of the range which is about 440 will break with a breakout. But I may be wrong as I’m having a fair amount of this.

I opted them to move to other investment areas such as property, land or any worthy business other than a hotel. The reason being they already have a hotel doing good and its a good option to have another income source to boost their bottom line.
Even a hotel in a new developing area would not be bad on the other hand..

what matters most is this is, as ha_na said, this should break their barriers and move up.

P.S - I do not have a single share as of now, but looking forward to buy Wink

Antonym,
I thought they usually do not value their portfolio ( Marked to Market) but mention only cost basis as it is long term holding. Atleast thats what they did in the past. However their land needs to be revalued.

What ever the fact it RENU is a solid investment for the patient who can hold. I have been hold 200 shares bought last year. After I dispose something, maybe I will buy a few more. ( with my luck it might run before that. But atleast I have 200 )

Hi, slstock.
You are partly right - RENU's investments are valued at cost in the Balance Sheet.
But every year, in the Annual Report (Notes to the Financial Statements), RENU discloses the Market Value of their investments.
For example, see Page 27 of their Annual Report for 2009-10.

Point taken Antonym. I see what you mean. We can do our own calculations based on it ( or before). I vaguely remember once I did a revaluation calculation on Land + portfolio, and if I am not mistaken it came to over Rs 600 ( total). Need to check though.
