Jul 16, 2012 (LBT) - The week took off to a lethargic start once again posting low volumes and turnover although active trading was witnessed on certain counters. The benchmark index gained 12.58 points to close at 4,880 whilst the more liquid MPI shed 2.21 points to close at 4,308. Total turnover for the day was over 196mn. (Approximately USD 1.5 million) Total volume traded was 15.7K.

No block trades were witnessed during the day confirming the lethargic start the week witnessed. Power & Energy sector cap LGL.X dominated activities during the day as it traded a healthy volume of 1.2mn shares. The cap emerged as the top contributor contributing over 19mn towards the day’s tally. LGL.X traded between Rs.15 and Rs.16.40 and closed the day at Rs.16.40 gaining 9.33% for the day.

NDB witnessed a block of 127,490 shares change hands at Rs.100 whilst PCHH witnessed 1mn shares change hands at Rs.12.30. The counters collectively contributed 27mn towards the day’s tally and finished being the 2nd and 3rd largest contributors towards turnover. RICH and Index heavy CARS also followed and witnessed attractive volumes change hands. RICH shed 1.45% to close at Rs.6.80 whilst CARS closed almost flat at Rs.463.

Further, high net worth and institutional interest was seen on caps NEST,JKH and EXPO during the day. Retail activity was also seen on both LGL voting and nonvoting resulting in attractive volumes being traded. LGL voting also went on to trade a volume of over 440,000 shares and closed at Rs.23.10 gaining 8.45% for the day. EAST also witnessed some activity during the day and closed at Rs.12.20 gaining 1.67% after trading over 670,000 shares. Further, retail volumes were topped by LOFC,BLUE.X and VLL.R whilst OGL emerged as the top gainer on thin trade.
