Sep 27, 2012 (LBT) - The All Share Price Index rose 5.7 points to close at 5,949.4 (0.1%) while the Milanka Price Index gained 21.4 points to close at 5,574.9 (0.4%). Total turnover for the day stood at LKR1,870.3 mn (USD14,268.6 k) vs. 12-months average daily turnover of LKR1,109.7 mn (USD8,466.0 k), whilst the volume traded for the day was 107,518.7 k against the 12-months average daily volume of 44,326 k.

Top contributory counters towards the turnover for the day were, Asiri Hospital Holdings LKR887.9 mn (USD6,773.8 k, 0.9%), John Keells Holdings LKR213.1 mn (USD1,626.0 k, 1.1%), National Development Bank LKR76.0 mn (USD579.8 k, -4.8%), Sampath Bank LKR64.1 mn (USD488.7 k, 1.4%) and Hatton National Bank (Non- Voting) LKR62.0 mn (USD472.9 k, -0.7%).

The activities at the Colombo bourse were primarily driven by institutional and foreign participation on selected counters whilst, retailers too actively participated. Foreign investors were hastening into Asiri Hospital Holdings which dominated the day’s turnover with 47.5% contribution. Over 69mn shares changed hands in eleven trades at a price between LKR 11.40-11.50 with counter closing at LKR11.5, whilst reaching an intraday high of LKR11.80. John Keells Holdings too grabbed foreign interest with over 500k shares changing hands in 4 crossings at LKR224.0-225.0. Announcement regarding the ownership change of AVIVA NDB Insurance was made today with American International Assurance Company Ltd to take 92.3% control in AVIVA NDB Insurance directly and indirectly. However, National Development Bank failed to sustain the upward momentum witnessed for the past three days, losing grip to close at LKR152.2 registering a price depreciation of 4.8%. Further, 200k shares of Sampath Bank changed hands at LKR214.0 in two crossings whilst, over 514k shares of Hatton National Bank (Non- Voting) transferred at LKR115.0 in two trades.

Foreign purchases amounted to LKR1,156.0 mn (USD8,818.9 k), whilst foreign sales amounted to LKR53.3 mn (USD406.3 k). Market capitalization stood at LKR 2,276.1 bn. YTD performance is -2.1%.

September 27, 2012 (LBO) – Sri Lanka stocks closed up 0.10 percent Thursday with NDB PLC and AVIVA NDB Insurance indices dropping on confirmation of a take- over by AIA group.

The Colombo All Share Index closed at 5,949.42 up 5.66 points and the S & P SL 20 Index closed 2.04 points higher at 3,222.31 up 0.06 percent.

Turnover was 1,870 million rupees. Top contributors to the day's turnover were Asiri Hospital Holdings with 887 million rupees, JKH with 213 million rupees and NDB with 76 million rupees.

AVIVA NDB Insurance PLC dropped 40.80 rupees to close at 398.70 down 9.28 percent. National Development Bank PLC dropped 7.40 rupees to close at 144.80 rupees down 4.86 percent. NDB Capital Holdings PLC gained 4.70 rupees to close at 439.80 rupees up 0.96 percent.

The most active counters for the day were Touchwood Investments, National Development Bank and Seylan Bank non-voting.

Index heavy John Keells Holdings PLC gained 2.00 rupees to close at 225.00 rupees up 0.90 percent.

Aitken Spence PLC slipped 2.00 rupees to close at 128.00 down 1.54 percent. Dialog Axiata gained 0.20 cents to close at 9.20 rupees up 2.22 percent.

Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC gained 0.40 cents to close at 699.90 rupees up 0.40 percent. The Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC dropped 3.30 rupees to close at 159.50 rupees down 2.03 percent.

Commercial Banka dropped 1.10 rupees to close at 115.00 rupees down 0.88 percent. DFCC Bank slipped 2.70 rupees to close at 120.20 rupees down 2.20 percent. Hatton National Bank PLC gained 0.70 cents to close at 164.80 rupees up 0.43 percent.
