MAS Holdings owners have to be on top of Brandix, they are in my opinion the better brand. However they are both very very successful in terms of their profitability, the number of jobs they provide, pay, working conditions, contributions to society in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (TRAIL - the walk from Dondra point to point Pedro to raise money for cancer hospital in the north is in progress at the moment - they've already raised over 100mil from the public...)

If you are talking about tea, then the Akbar brothers are much bigger than Dilmah... they rank amongst the biggest tea exporters in the world... Their tea is sold in different brand names for different buyers and regions.

I rate Ishara Nanayakkara above most other businessmen and entrepreneurs. His business acumen beats most people, he is bold and look how far he has got with the takeover of LOLC and how big it is and will become! Not to mention he is also a successful investor on the stock market.

In terms of wealth, Dhammika perera has had a monumental rise in personal net worth, mainly through the stock market but that's not taking anything away from his business prowess.

Otara has done well for herself being a female in a man's world. True, she does have the backing of Ajith Gunewardene and a few other very high profile influential and wealthy professionals but, they have other jobs. At the end of the day, it is she who is running her business day in and day out so props to her.

The other names are successful business men who have done well for themselves so my list ends there. Smile

Machang Carsons set eka naha ne. FYI Kris Canekeratne is the founder of Virtusa. I think you should mention Tony of Millenium IT also. He started the trend which Virtusa took to the next level.

To Me its Mr Wegapitiya & Miss Otara... Well Miss Otara didn't only created a brand she also introduced branded stuff to middle income families in sri lanka.. She introduced the fashion to middle income & lowe income families, She really made a impact to sri lankns way of life..

About Mr Wegapitiya... I think he has the guts to challenge & criticize the government , and the skill to negotiate with the same government ... He got a courage to enter in to monopoly market... Most of all he got a vision

To me , a person who collects others shares @ 20 and sell it @ 200 to become rich is not good for considering as an outstanding businessman.

Again, who take billions of Forex earned by helpless women and men in factories, plantations, Arab houses etc. and send that money out of the country to bring some stuff to sell here with a profit is not my choice for considering as even a Businessman.

Outstanding Businessman of a country is a one who creates value by producing a good or service to bring money into the country or at least save forex to make his motherland rich; not only him.

BTW, I am going to vote.
