Value(ation) is a relative thing.

:Relative to others in the batch and also relative to external situation.

In stock market, stocks are like ships and boats sail in the ocean.

In high tide all go up and in low tide all go down.

They may sail smoothly or can sink to bottom of the ocean at a given situation. That depends on the Captain and the crew, type and condition of the ship and type and qty of payload they have.

We jump from one to another.
If we jump to a strong vessel we may survive. But, in ideal-wind situation even a bad looking vessel can take you to the target faster then good looking one.

In a turbulent situation, little but maneuverable boat with less payload may become valuable than a huge tanker or container ship with hefty payload of gold.

It is very difficult to come to a conclusion at this moment of our country because we cannot forecast even next day weather.
All the captains are playing havoc with everything they get.

I really liked Chinwi's valuation analogy with ships at sea!!! Very Happy  Adding to that, think of the importance of life boats too.  The stronger the lifeboat, the safer you are if you need to bail out.   Disproportionately high NAV and EPS compared to the the market PE and peers = a strong sturdy lifeboat that can keep you afloat during turbulent times.

Having good dividends are like a month's supply of food and water on board the lifeboat.  Important when the rescue team/market boom haven't given a date of arrival!

AND last but not least,  Life jackets are the equivalent of resilience and insulation from government policy flip-flops.  The company must also have products or services that are not having a high price elasticity of demand.   Think of items or services people buy or use because they have no alternative despite a good or bad economy! Medical care is an example...
