Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera is scheduled to hold a meeting today with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman and Commissioners.

The Daily FT learns the convening of SEC team including the Acting Director General is a follow up to the President and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa-capital market stakeholders’ discussion held on Friday. Some termed today's meeting as “crucial.”

Whilst opinion over the forum with the President is mixed, with most brokers terming it positive and others describing it as “disappointing,” today’s fresh meeting between the Treasury Secretary and the SEC team will be closely trailed.

The President on Friday requested Dr. Jayasundera to reconvene the stakeholders in two weeks’ time for a follow-up on the discussions.

Most likely, main topic for the discussion will be the new regulations to be tabled
very soon. Changing of seats are very unlikely what I guess.

What ever the out come of the meeting- it should give the concreate impression to the genuine investor that the economic & regulatory measures in place would not be changed over-night but further strengthened towards much needed investor confidence building at the moment. Playing to the galary or soft peddling of policy measures to apeace the henchmen close to politics would be disastrous. Let us watch cautiously what the outcome would be.
