The last year's production was at 2.8 billion nuts and the official expects this year's harvest to be around 3 billion nuts. However, the prolonged drought may slightly decrease this year's harvest in October, the Director cautioned. The government in 2010 approved a fertilizer subsidy that was given to paddy farmers to the coconut growers as well.
A 50 kg bag of urea and potash fertilizer was given to all coconut growers at a subsidized price of Rs 1000.00 per bag to increase the coconut production in the country. The fertilizer subsidy costs the government 2.28 billion rupees annually.
