This is not in anyway blowing my horn or to upset anybody. But even with this dip my daily portfolio gain/loss is slightly on the green side Wink ( Don;t know whether it will last if the drop goes on for few days. Let watch where it closes above 4920 today)

Think it will be best to concentrate on slower running, fundamentally strong counter for the future. Gambling shares can bring you higher profit but the risk is much greater in a fall. All this is for only the medium to long term investor, trading is another game.

is there any positive out come of the meetings held? I don't think so. That's good cause the market should be allowed to correct on it's own.

It seems you are enjoying the GLAS run (just a guess Smile ). There are only five stocks in my portfolio all were picked as long term growth counters. Only one is RED. Others are in GREEN zone today.

There are three stocks to be picked in the next round but waiting for the right time.

I have 13 counters in my portfolio..4 of them are red...2 of them are fundamentally strong...so no worries.....2 of them are speculative with a small loss...but worth hanging on to them since they were recently bought.

Exactly, Should never concentrate on the index. After a long time my entire portfolio is green.
It is a clear sign of market recovery. But I don't believe that ASI will hit even 5200 within this year.
Just meetings & new credit rules cant make the market up.
Businesses have to move forward and that potential in not there yet.
As always, slow and steady is better than runs.

why should market go up when financials of most firms show that significant profit dip for 2nd quarter?

Antonym,
Presume these profits are considered when you take out the off gain of last year. Also is CARS/BUKI considred yet ( there is some announcement with results but no official report )? I did not have time to keep tab, but according to your calculations so far so good then.

CARS & BUKI's abysmal results have not been considered in the above figures; those could alter the overall picture completely.

IF the combined number of performers out weighs the losers in your portfolio , then your daily portfolio will be green. We do not need all green counters to make overall daily gain green.

My point is these drops in the market , would not hurt you too much if you have strong counters which are near bottom. Playing with fire can make your portfolio red as soon as a down turn comes.

BTW, I do have some GLAS collected from before and bought a few more when it hit Rs 4.9 - 5.1. Today GLAS uptrend can ge hardly called a run . It was a small increase from Rs 5.3 to 5.4 ( closing at Rs 5.5). Lets see next week where it heads.

that is the true picture of the profitablility of sri lankan companies for 2nd quarter..
my argument is that for most companies profitability have eroded significantly due to high interest cost and lower exchange rate.
I think banking sector profits will be a major disaster for next few quarters..

People should eat and drink in any economic condition. It is better to focus on F&B sector and suppliers to F&B. At the moment, most promising sectors are F&B and tourism.
