Sri Lankan share prices snapped a four-day loosing streak to rise marginally on Friday, with activity centred around John Keels Holdings, country’s one of the largest conglomerates, analysts said.

The Colombo bourse continued its downward trend this week. Selling pressure of investors was seen in the market during the week despite the marginal upturn on Friday, a stock broker said.

The broader All Share Price Index closed up 2.34 points to 4,854.22, while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks gained 16.43 points to end at 4,395.66, according to Colombo Stock Exchange figures.

S&P 20 Index of large cap stocks fell 5.08 points to close at 2,734.21
The turnover was Rs.168.87 million and the share volume stood at 12.66 million.

John Keels Holdings, country’s one of the largest conglomerates continued to be the top contributor for the weekly turnover with Rs 599 million . PCH Holdings Limited and Sampath Bank PLC contributed Rs 255.8 million and Rs. 131.4 million respectively.

PCH Holdings Limited was the highest traded share with 28million shares changing hands during the week. (Bandula)

Aug 10, 2012 (LBO) – Sri Lanka stocks closed flat Friday with the All Share Price Index gaining 2.34 points to close at 4,854.22 marginally up 0.05 percent.

The Milanka index of more liquid stocks closed up 0.38 percent at 4,370.88. The S&P index of large cap stocks lost 5.08 points to close at2734.21 down 0.19 percent.
Friday's turnover was 168 million rupees. Highest contributors to turnover were HNB with27 million rupees, Pan Asia Bank with 13 million rupees and E-Channeling with 10 million rupees.

Most active counters for the day were Swarnamahal Financial Services, Free Lanka Capital Holdings and Coco Lanka, brokers said.

Aitken Spence PLC gained 1.00 rupee to close at 110.00 rupees up 0.92 percent. Aviva NDB Insurance PLC closed flat at 287.30 rupees.

The Milanka index of more liquid stocks closed up 0.38 percent at 4,370.88. The S&P index of large cap stocks lost 5.08 points to close at2734.21 down 0.19 percent.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon gained 0.40 cents to close at 98.00 rupees while DFCC slipped 1.50 cents to close at 108.20 down 1.37 percent.

Dialog Axiata PLC closed flat at 6.00 rupees. HNB gained 0.50 cents to close at 132.00 up 0.38 percent.
