The Colombo bourse yesterday closed marginally up on a very small turnover of Rs.168.9 million, down from the previous day’s Rs.773.6 million, with the All Share Price Index up 2.34 points (0.05%) and the Milanka gaining 16.43 points (0.38%) while S&P was down 5.08 points (0.19%) with 137 gainers outpacing 71 losers while 94 counters closed flat.
Brokers said that it was a very quiet day with gains on the Milanka Price Index mainly driven by Sampath Bank and Commercial Bank, with Sampath closing Re.1 up at Rs.161 and Commercial Bank gaining 40 cents to close at Rs.98.
There was a block trade in HNB where 210,000 shares were crossed at Rs.130 in a deal worth Rs.27.3 million.
Pan Asia was the day’s biggest turnover generator on the trading floor closing flat at Rs.17 on nearly 0.8 million shares done between Rs.17 and Rs.17.10 contributing Rs.13.2 million to turnover.
E-Channeling followed gaining 20 cents to close at Rs.4.60 on nearly 2.2 million shares traded between Rs.4.50 and Rs.4.70 contributing Rs.10.1 million to turnover while Commercial Bank contributed Rs.8.7 million gaining 40 cents to close at Rs.98 on 89,006 shares and Ascot was up a rupee to close at Rs.199.80 on 39,226 shares adding Rs.7.8 million to the day’s business volume.
Seylan Bank was another banking stock that showed some volume closing flat at Rs.51 on 138,262 shares.
ACL Plastics announced an interim dividend of Re.1 per share for 2011/12 XD from August 20 with payment on August 29.
