what's the typical P/E in banksector ?

when we look at the samp.n, it's P/E is about 12. Is it undervalued?

The P/E of other Banks is about:
PABC.N: 20 (EPS 2.61)
SFIN.N: 19.9 (EPS 1.91)
HNB.N: 15.3
NTB.N: 14.7 (EPS 5.4)

You can visit http://www.cse.lk/welcome.htm and select [EQUITY MARKET]>[Sector Wise Market Summary] and you have your P/E values Smile

I picked this up from some other thread: http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t865-how-to-find-sector-p-e-via-dfn-or-cselk better have a look at that too because there is some doubt about the validity of reported information.

I reckon SAMP is the best share you can buy in banking sector for the current market prices.
Its worth for Rs 270 - Rs 285 range.

Financial institutes. CFIN is still worth for money ( At last SLIC sold all CFIN shares).

P/Es of followings

HNB = can see a low P/E due to one off gain from COMB deal.
COMB= Benchmark Private bank in Sri Lanka but already valued.
DFCC= Already Valued
LOLC= Value for your money
NTB= Can called as the small brother of SAMP. Value for money
MBSL = used to be a great share to buy but since lookafter all the loss making Ceylinco companies I'm not too sure where it stands.
NDB= Good but not an investor friendly share.
SEYB = Better to buy after the right issue.
PABC = Bit risky to invest as not too sure how they can increase the capital by only profits.

I dont know about most other mini financial institutes (not interest). Ex VFIN, TFC, SFL etc
