Sept 03, 2012 (LBT) - The Month of September started on a positive note with the bourse witnessing a very active day of trading keeping up with the trend shown in the last two years. September is considered a positive month for the bourse devoid of any external factors and it would be interesting to see if the positive momentum witnessed in the first day of trading continues. Fresh round of retail buying was experienced with aggressive activity across the board whilst support was seen from Institutions and High net worth’s to end the day in green.

The benchmark index gained 70.84 points to close at 5,250 whilst the more liquid MPI also gained a healthy 92.54 points to close at 4,904. Total turnover for the day was over 982mn. (Approximately USD 7.4 million) Total volume traded was over 114K. Turnover was bolstered by a strategic deal on ECL where 8.7mn shares change hands at Rs.4.70. The block trade amounted to over 40mn whereas the counters overall contribution for the day was a massive 149mn. ECL single handedly pumped in over 16% of the day’s total turnover. The counter saw aggressive trading throughout the day between Rs.4.60 and Rs.5.20 and closed at Rs.5 trading a healthy 22.6mn shares on the normal board. Banking sector heavyweight COMB also witnessed a block trade where 200,000 shares changed hands at Rs.105. The counter pumped in over 42mn and closed the day at Rs.105 gaining marginally.

The bourse witnessed much renewed activity during the day as healthy volumes traded on most of the counters. Retail heavy caps such as CSD and CSF traded attractive volumes throughout the day and contributed over 60mn towards the day’s tally collectively. The 2 caps gained impressive percentages such as 14.47% and 8.82% respectively. Caps such as VONE,CFIN,CFLB,HPWR,SEYB.X also witnessed activity throughout the day and contributed healthy amounts after trading attractive volumes.

Much improved retail participation was evident during the day showing signs of regained confidence among certain investors. BLUE.N and BLUE.X dragged much retail interest as the 2 caps closed the day gaining over 15%. EXPO also witnessed renewed interest across the board to trade over 1.6mn shares and close at Rs.7 gaining 0.50 cents for the day. Penny stocks such as FLCH,TESS and ATL also traded attractive volumes whilst SEMB.X emerged as the top gainer.

IMHO
One volume is total Quantity of shares.
Other one is total trade for the day.

Net selling is negligible. They will try to push down the market. As soon as they realized that they cannot frighten the local investors any more they will buy again. Because they do not want to lose the stuff bought at lower levels. Eventually they will buy since the most counters are still undervalued.
