2% gain from a 45% loss. That's actually what I gained when ASI reached 5300. From 5300 to 5600 I didn't make profits because the speculatives dominated the market and mine were stuck at the same level.

i spoke to one of my good friend recently, he started investing when the market cap was 3 trillion.
he invested 20 million, and recently left the market with 1.7 million.

my total unrealised loss declined from 1.3 million to 0.9 million rupees..

My loss was around 50% on my portfolio. But series of measures like careful re-adjustment, averaging, switching to stocks with higher beta; better fundamentals, using broker credit at the time most appropriate etc. now with the uptrend the loss has come down to 22%. If it continues, I may end up in green zone.

By the way, I also had some chicken stocks at low cost. Those are contributing to a faster recovery in my portfolio.

It's nothing to do with what shares he brought. 10 million was purely on blue chip companies. It's bad timing. Cos he brought the whole 20million worth share on his first day in the market.

That's the mistake he has done. May be he was new to the market. He should have monitor the market for some time and invested step by step.

BTW, I have reduced my unrealized loss from 30% to 5%. I hope another couple of dark green days would make portfolio to positive.

My Total unrealized loss was 28% before market acceleration now came close to 22% of full investment.

Current portfolio about 15% loss from around 30% loss before teh rally, but that mainly because I sold shares with huge gains!
From cash invested in last 2 years I had about 0-5% total loss and now in about 30% gain!

with blue chips it's highly unlikely to have that kind of a loss. I can't think of any shares :S

My unrealized loss was nearly 60% as at 2012 June.
In June I had sold my whole portfolio. This was the most miserable decision that I have ever made. If I didn't do it my unrealized loss would came down to nearly 10%.
Now I have been stuck with MULL. I'm buying stock using credit.
It gives me small help to recover my loss. Crying or Very sad

i started investing since last year 2011 november. my worst was 10% loss in unrealised. i had disposed part of portfolio in the wake of the bull run.still i have no regrets because i took the decision to free up credit so that i could buy more.

if you see my porfolio posted few posts ago i am now stuck with DIAL & BLUE (small qty so no concern)rest of the 1st batch sold either at a small loss or BE.

My only indecision if i could ever point would have been BFL bought @ 127 but disposed @ BE that is to free up capital to purchase new shares, which i made profit.

As at mid April 2011 my portfolio performed well and recoded unrealized profit 18% (Green).
As at July 2011 it changed to Red and recorded unrealized loss of 12.5%
Worst case by mid 2012 it was recorded unrealized loss of 53%

Today my overall gain is 0.8% even after allowing huge loss due to IPOs such as SHL,Expo&BILL. I havent disposed any as yet. Thanks all forum members who made me wiser. I am still learning.
