Trade Summary Market - 28/09/2012 2809_t10
Sep 28, 2012 (LBT) - The bourse continued to inch higher with the ASPI gaining 0.4% to close at 5972, just below the key psychological resistance level of 6000. Turnover remained high at LKR2.1bn with crossings in Commercial Bank and John Keells Holdings accounting for 49% of the day’s total. Gainers outpaced losers with Lake House Printers, Nuwara Eliya Hotels and Ceylon Hospitals rising by 20.0%, 17.2% and 15.0% smoothening out declines in Equity One, Serendib Land and Aviva NDB which lost 10.0%, 6.3% and 6.2% respectively. Meanwhile, Asian markets rose today as eurozone debt concerns were eased after Spain unveiled swinging cuts in a budget that is expected to pave the way for a bailout.

Given generally positive investor sentiment coupled with 3Q2012 corporate results in the offing, we expect the ASPI to test the 6000 resistance level next week. The question facing many investors now is whether to continue to sit in the wings or be adequately positioned to be a part of the upcoming quarterly earnings release. While we are definitely encouraged by the bourse’s performance so far, we nevertheless advise investors to accumulate quality stocks which are expected to out perform on an absolute and risk adjusted basis. We recommend an asset allocation strategy in line with investor’s risk appetite in order to take advantage of any price weakness in the market. Stock selectivity will however determine the winners from the losers. As such, a flight to quality strategy is strongly advised.

Picture quality is good enough. But sound quality is very low. It is very difficult to hear. Please use a good mic.
