In a widely anticipated move following a private placement of its shares, Expolanka Holdings announced today the appointment of prominent investors Dr. S. Selliah, Mr. S. H. Amarasekera along with Mr. Sanjay Kulatunga as independent directors to its board.
A seasoned veteran of the capital markets, Dr. Selliah- a medical doctor and lecturer by profession- sits in the board of several listed companies including Lanka Wall Tiles PLC and Asiri Hospitals PLC where he serves as Deputy Chairman. He is also Chairman of CleanCo Lanka Limited and serves as a director for a number of public and private unlisted companies.
Mr. Harsha Amarasekera is an Attorney-at-Law by profession and has a wide practice in the Original Courts as well as in the Appellate Courts. He has specialized in Commercial Law, Business Law, Securities Law, Banking Law and Intellectual Property Law. He serves as an Independent Director in several listed companies in the Colombo Stock Exchange including Chemical Industries.
Mr. Sanjay Kulatunga holds a series of Executive Directorships within the Beira Group of companies.. He is also a Director of Amba Research Lanka, which he helped setup in 2003.Sanjay has an MBA from the University of Chicago 'Booth School of Business', and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA) as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
Speaking to the media during the unveiling of the new board, Chairman, Expolanka Holdings, Mr. Osman Kassim said;
"We are certain that Expolanka will gain much from the experience of the new directors in our endeavor to implement corporate governance throughout the Group."
Following these new appointments the Board of Directors of Expolanka Holdings comprises Mr. Osman Kassim(Chairman), Mr. Sattar Kassim, Mr. Farook Kassim, Mr. Shafik Kassim, Mr. Hanif Yusoof (Director & Group CEO), Dr. S. Selliah, Mr. S. H. Amarasekera and Mr. Sanjay Kulatunga.
This latest move by Expolanka Group - a conglomerate with interests in transportation, manufacturing, international trading and strategic investments across the globe - is in line with its expectation to go for an Initial Public Offer this year.
