Lost patience and cleared all I had yesterday. This IPO was a waste of money, time and effort.

Expo lanka subscribers make note of this.

BTW goodpick, ipoguru, i fear that you guys might have waited till it was too late. The correct way to exit a losing position is like this: once the price starts declining, draw a line on the chart and say I will sell at a loss if it drops below this point. Make sure the line is not too far down.

With the 1Q results, the trailing PE of UB is about 42. This is way above industry. Industry average PE is around 18.

This is what I said on 16th March,11.

IPOs will no more be the girl on the beach. The girl will lose her cosmetic value.

The tinsel dreams of making a killing on the first trading day may not be a reality in the days to come. UB will be an example - I hope

UBC issued 151 million shares @ Rs12.50 each on 21st June 2010

The one year voluntary lock in by some shareholders was for only 97 million of these shares, and for even this, the expiry of the lock in period is 20th June 2011

I have been mentioning this many times, considering current financial of UBC, I can find many more attractive banking shares. UBC might be good bank for future but until then there are others to invest.

Dear Cse.alpha,

1. Has this 151m (@12/50) issue been disclosed to the public well in prior to the IPO ?

2. You mean to say that after 21st June 2011, the share price will further plummet ? Shocked Embarassed Mad

Answers as per my knowledge : 1 - Specified in the IPO document. 2. those shareholders are authorised to sell asfter the given date. then the price up/down depends on thair selling price.

cse.alpha to confirm anyway.

Thanks, CSE Alpha & Milanka. + reps from me.

This is an expensive lesson for not reading IPO prospectus, before making investment decisions.

I could remember this was discussed in this forum but not like in grater length as Expo. Some one pointed it out and myself too looked at the prospectus after that.

Anyway its a lesson for the future IPO's

To all retail investors,
long IPO's waiting list so, Don't make a decision for the sake of u,r broker advice Make your own analys as per as u can. go through the prospectus
espesilly the situation where there is a private palcement / sell out
these days most of the advisor's are less knowledgeble on the subject, even though they rcomend most of the time they don,t go through the prospectus. be careful ultimately looser wil be you

Overall our economy does not have a capacity (at the moment) absorb this much of IPOs in everymonth and bcos f that we cannot see huge price increases in IPOs

Agreed with you pichchiya..little by little..
But here lot of guys seem like disappointing about IPOs
Never give up guys that's the only option we have to gain a guaranteed profit within a shorter period. Go for any IPO. But have some self studding method before make the decision.. Smile

Oh! I'm going to put my 1st comment in SLEquity Forum Very Happy

Okay, about UBC...
I predict it will be same as what happened to LGL. It will come down. After BIG fellows r satisfid with thr collection! It will move up! I think it will stagnant around 25-26 for some tym... Smile

UBC's really low proportion given to investors at it's IPO is the simple reason for me!

Some times ago we had good IPOs with PER around 10 and we got instant profit at the secondary market.

Nowadays they issue IPOs with the pricing over 20 or even 30 PER after sucking all the profit to make millions of bonus/split shares for the owners.

It is like I sell my cow at weaning after selling all the milk and the buyers have to wait until next litter to get milk.
