I am holding my breath without buying further… and increasing my portfolio size and value. BTW I am on 100% margin because I collected my cheque on the same day I purchased shares. So the credit goes undetected… Smile

If market falls I would buy upto 10mn this time. All on broker credit.

Look at my Portfolio Today. I have lost Rs 90,000/= almost 5% of the portfolio value. Those who criticized me for selling, can you please advise!!!!! Almost 7% of my previous realized profits are vanished with my foolish decision to reinvest instead of waiting until January.. Sad

In some situation it is hard to pick stock for the short run. For long run we can just buy if we see great value and growth in stocks and then we can forget volatility. I consider loss making is part of stock market journey. I don’t think we can make profit all the time. Before the current major uptrend I also made a mistake buying CINV around Rs.110 and sold around Rs.80/. As we are having a current uptrend this stock should go up. We need to identify support level before we buy it. Actually I avoided stocks which had bigger rally during last couple of months. I am mainly in to value stocks and stocks which are in the beginning of their major uptrend. I also like to go behind undervalued sectors now. According to market stage we should select correct stocks. Buying and selling decisions are not as easy as we think. For example if you have kept TPL now it is trading above Rs.35 and as you sold it you have lost small capital gain and had to pay broker commissions as well to sell and buy stocks. It would have been better if you had kept some of your winning stocks. Then you would have avoided the loss. You had few great winning stocks. One is REXP. Good luck!

We are subject to both gain (lābha) and loss (alābha). It is quite natural to be complacent in obtaining a gain or a profit
The problem arises in case of loss. Profits one can bear smilingly but not so the losses.

It is under such adverse circumstances that one should exhibit moral courage and maintain a balanced mind.
All have ups and downs while battling with life. One should always be prepared for the losses in particular for less disappointment.

We must face loss with equanimity (upekkhā) and think it is an opportunity to practice that sublime virtue.

I think Intentionally or unintentionally we are in to stock market to learn and develop this quality. This is called Samsara when there was a loss, I was so upset in one stage. but now, I smile

Darling SSTAR, if you had stick to your rules,plans and strategies this would not have happened.you could have come back in January as you thought, you changed the plans because you were bit greedy for money. now is the time to suffer for that as Prithi said.

Unless selling all the shares, you could have shuffled them and remodel them while taking profits for some extend as Value pick said.

My opinion, there is nothing to worry about the market.It will pick up with budget, elections,Q reports etc but all you need to worry is your risk management plans when picking specific stocks.Try to hang in there baby. You will be all right.Be happy and smile. we are with you.

Why don’t do you do some home work to buy next winning sectors/stocks.

Please pay attention to following.

Try to apply your own strategy in picking stocks such as REXP, UDPL, AEL and TPL before others. Still you can study these shares during next three to eight quarters.
Do not ignore single sector in a major uptrend.
Do not sell all stocks in a major uptrend. Sometimes you will miss some life time opportunity.
Do not follow others.
Try to pick stocks/ sectors according to the stage of major uptrend. It is better to add new sectors/ stocks as well in the coming months.
Avoid hot stocks. Neglected stocks specially hidden gems will shine in the market.
Mid and Long term players can forget charts, market volatility etc.
In addition we might have few attractive IPOs toward second half of next year.
Target companies which are going to get favourable industry prospects in the coming quarters and years.

Portfolio management is not easy as we think specially when we trade and invest in stocks using credit. We can make mistakes. Actually this market is very strong. We should not make mistakes. Sometimes we may sell winning stocks and will keep stagnated stocks. It is better to keep some cash for some special opportunities as well. In bull market we cannot predict exactly top for the above stocks. Above stocks should go up as long as major uptrend is intact which we are seeing now. By studying personality and trend for above stocks we can make some capital gain from them. You may see their strong trend in the coming weeks and months. Good luck!

There are good stocks to pick in the current market. My investment size would be Rs 100mn and I want to hold maximum 5 -10 companies. First I want to find answers to below questions before I start investing.

1. How long the Sri Lanka's construction boom is going to continue.
2. What are the current trends in the world food and commodity demand and it's implication to the economy.
3. What implications the low interest rate will have on property prices and future demand for real estate.
4. If MR loses what implication country will have in respect infrastructure development and relationship with China.
5.what are companies that trade below PEG ratio of 1.
6. What are the companies not affected by the political uncertainty and what are companies currently benefited through political influence.
7. What are the sectors that will perform best during the next year.
8. Owners of the companies and their past track record and credibility.
9. Economic indicators, it's future trends and forecast.
10. Overall market enthusiasm and future regulations.

This is too much work for one person. Perhaps we can start sharing few ideas here.
