The National Executive Council has unanimously decided to recommend the arrest of former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa to question him over the Avant Garde floating armory incident, local media reports said.

Sarath Fonseka's arrest was disadvantages to PA. Why would UNP wants to do such a stupid thing before election. After all Gotabaya is war hero and if not for him we won't have peace in this country. All the cardboard heroes who tries to give the country over to terrorist on a silver platter are in charge and now trying betray the people who saved the country.

My sympathy is with Gota and I strongly condemn the present government for such stupid action.

Me too not only a war hero , as a civil servant what he has done for the country is immense. Nobody could match his output and quality.

an arrest of a high ranking official in the previous regime would provoke a negative perspective of the previous regime with the public thus anything associated with the previous regime including members would also be looked in a negative light , true the arrest of Fonseka was detrimental but i reckon Gota would have have far less sympathizers than fonseka did.

Just because the President has pardoned him, he is still convicted legally by the courts and thereby it does not absolve of him of the fact. Ai oova Field Marshall karannae?
