The WHO's cancer research unit now classifies processed meat as "carcinogenic to humans" based on evidence from hundreds of studies, and linked it specifically to colon, or colorectal, cancer.
The news is a potential blow for red meat industry.....how will this news impact the poultry industry....guys what do u think ? Chicken/egg demand going to increase ?
You have highlighted a good point. Still it is too early to come to conclusion. However, if health analysts prove that read meat is bad for heath, then there will more demand for poultry and egg over read meat. Still there are people they will continuously eat red meat. Every meat has some sort of market share globally. Poultry will have more growth over other meat in the coming decade. According to some we should not eat too much read meat. There will be less arable land in the future. How can feed human and animal alike in the coming decade? Red meat producers need lot of animal feed. In the case of poultry, they need less feed. Growth for poultry sector has more than other meat in the coming decade. Just like human, animal also need good weather. There will be shortage in poultry products time to time due to bad weather such as heat. We saw millions of animals (chickens) were dying due to heat in countries such as India. Even in Malaysia chicken industry has affected from haze.
There were reports that the haze in Malaysia is affecting business at farms that rear poultry and produce vegetables as chickens die by the millions in a month and farm produce dwindle, with consumers set to be the biggest losers. Don’t forget increased population in Asian and pacific region. More mouths in the future means more demand for all type of food.

How to Play China's Rampant Demand for Meat
Wall Street Daily-9 hours ago
Finally eating all type of food in moderation can be considered as safe eating. We cannot force vegetarians and vegans to eat meat and egg. I don’t see any health issues in those who are very active and productive people in their life. In addition, over production in food will create other issues globally.
Globally there was some support (demand) for chicken stocks during last two days. Today they are outperforming other meat stocks and their share prices appreciated accordingly. On the other hand, after WHO report, other read meat related stocks had some selloff yesterday and they recovered somewhat today.
In a roaring bull market all types of stocks will go up. As I said before, during final stages of current bull market there will be more demand for defensive stocks such as food stocks. GRAN is one of the stocks to keep under our radar now. Do not rush to buy and sell stocks in bull markets. I think some panicked and rushed and sold when it was trading around Rs.87. Some replaced it with BFL thinking to make profit after quarterly results. Behavior and personality of BFL is different from other two this time. GRAN is also one of the strong break out stocks in the market.
What is the more important? It is future earnings. More than stock prices, future earnings are more important for all types of value investors. They are looking for long term shareholder value creation.
Some of the things to consider when analyzing this sector?
Grain prices
Other raw materials prices including oil prices
Consumer preferences
Population growth
Demand for poultry products locally as well regionally
Income level
Other factors such tourism boom and new development
Pull back, volatility and sell off create great opportunity in bull markets. For example those who took advantage of sell off in August and September have become great winners in global markets now.
